Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.

The federal research funding freeze holds the lifeblood of medical research ransom “Holding the lifeblood of medical research ransom — without warning, without consultation — is shortsighted at best and incredibly harmful at worst,” writes researcher David Victorson.

And these pauses are targeting grants for things like how to protect and train workers that need endurance like firefighters. Everyone needs to be paying close attention

Yes… dollars for each collard and pennies for each pea .. at least that’s how I was convinced to embrace the tradition as a child

Proving once again “there is nothing new under the sun “

I agree with this thought. I think these two groups would nit require alignment over every thought the way the extremes do

That is very helpful and fits better with what we read in the New Testament of how Jesus interacted with his disciples.

Reminding myself that there are many of us who thought character counted then and still believe that now regardless of the political affiliation. It just seems that the partisan inclined are just louder than we are

My first thought as well

This is exactly right. There comes a time when you run out of excuses for some people’s actions or lack. There’s truth to the admonition “when someone shows you who they are …believe them”.

Me too. It’s always been a favorite of mine.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Grief is awful and inevitable, so yes the fact that some bring it into our lives when they didn’t have to but chose to is abhorrent

Weariness is a very good word describing being constantly subjected to continuous outrage. It comes to a place to where it becomes like the boy who cried wolf. If everything provoked outrage then nothing really does.

Truth isn’t dependent on being believed. That’s the problem - much of society says “I’ll only believe what I can understand” when that’s never actually true. We just apply it in select cases.

Yes there are those who portray it in lockstep with Trump & it’s done real & lasting damage. There are plenty of us who were never polled who would buck that trend. I hope that we are the majority -we’re just not as loud apparently as the group I’d like to think is truly the minority.

I think there are many holding similar assessments of what we are seeing. Perhaps our language in explaining them is different & certain aspects stand out more. We’ve all (secular & religious) been conditioned to view everything as “us vs them” Bottom line is we can all do better & we should

That’s misusing scripture which many times in the New Testament Jesus condemned. His ire was often aimed at Pharisees who weaponized scripture to achieve their own purposes not God’s. However, the crusading nature you refer to was not limited to Christianity.

I get that. Yes, a lot of people feel the word has been so tainted that it’s not redeemable. I still hold out hope.

Yes, he definitely taught that and modeled servant leadership. Speaking truth in love is sadly not the norm. I think many believe and try to follow it they are just not as loud or headline grabbing as those who have mishandled scripture.

In other words - evangelize. I admit there are huge problems with the current culture in following this admonition but that doesn’t negate it. I’m not ready to give up the title even though many things done under the banner infuriate me

I think it’s helpful to remember that evangelizing which should be the basis for evangelicals originated many years ago when Jesus charged his followers with the task of going to share and train others all he had taught them. This isn’t white and it’s not southern.

A better question would be a woman who greatly impacted your life that you are not related to 😊. That eliminates the easy answer of mother and wife.

Yes, I’ve started writing out Matthew by hand. It slows me down enough to really think through even familiar passages.
