Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

And there was me thinking it was Michelle Ogundehinβs private studio. With Alan Carr. Iβve been tricked!
Did he truly say this? Delighted to see a report or evidence, but too often these quotes are merely hopeful.
Realistically heβd need to be an MP, and right now thereβs no certainty for the Tories in any byelection. Some poor Tory chump will resign, and then Reform takes another seatβ¦
βThat they should be the ones to welcome Pope Francisβs coffin in the basilica is because these people are those who represented the focus of his mission,β said Father Giulio Albanese, head of missionary cooperation and communications for the Vicariate of Rome. βThey are those who live on the peripheries, geographical and existential peripheries.β
The final honor guard for Pope Francis included migrants, prisoners, transgender people, the homeless and others selected by the Vicariate of Rome as a symbol of the late popeβs mission of inclusion and outreach.

Iβm sure you check the spelling of all your posts - but just know you will have checked this one twenty times.
It's funny how when you ask them why they think Pope Francis was "too woke" and request specific examples, they always wound up describing Christ's teachings without a hint of self-awareness.
O Lord, grant us a quiet night and a peaceful end. #Compline prayers for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. May he rest in peace and rise in glory with Christ. πΏπποΈβοΈπ
Deep Purpleβs refusal to record βBlack Sheep of the Familyβ is said to be the reason Blackmore left the band. A great song on a great album.
Definitely 14th? Youβre certain?
Meeting your heroes is often disappointing, but the chance to talk with Elif Shafak, to hear her beautiful stories, and to share my story of how one of her books helped change my life was very special. @sevenoaksbookshop.bsky.social
An amazing collection. There are two others in the series, of equal worth.
I donβt buy books on Amazon. Leftover from my previous life as an indie bookseller.

At least they continue to believe in the purpose and need for the vaccine. It could be worse.
Today, both Candlemas and Imbolc help us to celebrate lightβs return, a reminder of hope and renewal. As Unitarians, these festivals might invite us to embrace inner growth, honouring the divine, and the human need for transformation. In darkening times it is the hope for light that holds us.
Thereβs a sermon in this, surely
Today we might reflect on the life of Saint Thomas Aquinas, a scholar who understood that faith and reason are not opposites but partners in the pursuit of truth. As Unitarians we remember his quiet insistence on evidence, reflection, and the pursuit of understanding through both heart and mind.
And very naughty music choice by the team at that point. Itβs just so good.
It was well thought out. Bigger question is whether next step is just too clever.
For troublesome priests, we give thanks to the Lord.
That footage of Bishop Mariann Budde made me properly tear up. Her courage and compassion sets the bar high for the rest of us to speak truth to power - not just indirectly but face to face β€οΈ
Wow! May I present to you my new hero - the bishop of Washington the Rt Rev Mariann Budde β€οΈβπ₯ God keep this brave woman safe for having the courage to speak truth to power so directly.
This is what religion done well looks like.

Those present at the inauguration were mostly (if not all) white, rich, and males wearing ties. Trumpβs core supporters were left out in the cold.
Think about it.
I see very little political material on FB - and a lot of music and diesel locomotives. My algorithms should be fine there.
It was your posts about it that led me to see the film last night. Very strong, lots to reflect on. One to see again, soon.

I left X to escape the angry political arguments. I found Bluesky talking about books, art, poetry and faith. It was wonderful. A couple of months later and my timeline is increasingly filled with angry politics.
As the year turns, we let go of that which weighs us down, the old hurts and regrets. With quiet resolve, we instead carry forward the lessons learned, stepping into the unknown, hearts open, ready to begin again.
