Beneath the Church, etc. by S.L. Alderton cold light pierces Jesus’ side on its way to polish bone empty eyes blink silent teeth clack spell-songs into dust

It's the second Friday the 13th of this year (no wonder things are going so well πŸ™ƒ), so why not read some spooky poetry?
I have new poems available for free in Exquisite Death here: www.exquisitedeathezine.com/beneath-the-...
And in Antinous' Ring here: ilyawo.wixsite.com/antinousring...

Not to mention DVD Easter eggs.

Discovery S3: Better than 2, still kind of a snoozefest. Best bits were Saru getting into Buster Keaton, Saru communicating with the weird psychic Kelpian, and Book's cat. Worst bit was Tilly losing her personality and every Trill being an idiot for no reason.

S3 Discovery: I haven't cared about the plot in more than a season, but I do very much enjoy watching Saru walk around and be his spindly, polite self. Doug Jones is a scholar and a gentleman.

Scapegoat - Goat aliens, Nazis, and the Grand Guignol. *shrug* Why not, I guess? Some nice Doctor feels (he definitely misses the jellyfish). The Lucie moment is more of a negative one this time--doesn't she know better by now than to get onto strange carousels?

Issue 1 | Antinousring

More spooky poetry for your weekend! I have three unsettling poems in the first issue of Antinous' Ring. Check them out (with lots of other great fiction and poetry, of course!)

Recently learned that one of the teen volunteers I supervise refers to me as "the elder goth" to her friends, and I will be riding that high for the rest of March I'm afraid.

Heaven have mercy on us allβ€”Presbyterians and Pagans alikeβ€”for we are all somehow dreadfully cracked about the head, and sadly need mending

I actually kinda like Department of War, as a name. I like when things are honest about what they are.

Wirrn Dawn - The Wirrn were basically proto-xenomorphs, so I was curious how they'd be handled in a post-Alien world. Turns out: like a sentient species able to negotiate despite their disturbing life cycle. Rad! Lucie highlight: making fun of the macho soldier guy. #BigFinishDW

Ryan Coogler's involvement is basically the only thing that could have made me interested in this.
Still not sure it's possible to make conspiracy theories fun in 2026, but if anyone can find a way, he can!

The Beast of Orlok - About time Eight had another gothic horror adventure. This one's got golems! Not the best use of their lore I've seen, but they're still cool. Lucie highlight: finding the LTD switch (despite the Doctor telling her it was a button). #BigFinishDW

I can't argue with any particular point, but comparing Neelix to gay people does feel homophobic.

I don't even know if I agree that BvS is worse. At least it has some funny moments. WW84 is just cringe.

Probably Avatar: The Way of Water. I was so mad at Film Twitter for making me think it might be good, and so mad at myself for ignoring my better instincts.

Close second would be Rise of Skywalker, but at least I knew that would be bad going in. I just didn't know *how* bad.

As for non-canon, companion ships, etc.:
Two/Jamie (of course)
Tegan/Nyssa
Peri/Erimem
Post-death Owen/Tosh
Thirteen/sentient frog dimension

Whoever you all ship, I hope you're writing/reading great fics about them today!

And most of all, Doctor/TARDIS. I like that their relationship is incomprehensible to humans, but they still have to negotiate all the normal problems of a long-term partnership: communication, boundaries, consent, etc. They fight all the time, but they literally can't live without each other. OTP.

Twelve/River. (Maybe I just like shipping Twelve with people because he's so asexual. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ) Their one episode together is so much more romantic than the entire season devoted to her relationship with Eleven. And even though there's still an age gap, it feels less creepy with 2 equally mature actors.

14.02.2026 20:32 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Here's a controversial one: Twelve/Clara. I said no Time Lord/human ships, but this one isn't a romance. It's an obsession between two massive egos who see their purest reflections in one another. It's toxic and destructive for everyone involved, they know it, and I love that kind of mess. πŸ–€

14.02.2026 20:32 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Four/Romana. Both versions, but more chemistry with Romana II because of the real-life relationship bleeding through. I just love how much fun they have together. And it's the only Doctor/companion romance that doesn't end in tragedy. I imagine they stayed friends over the centuries.

So, working chronologically: Doctor/Master. All incarnations, all stories (except maybe Time-Flight b/c it's so rubbish). I feel they're the only beings in the universe who fully understand each other. Can't beat the spark between Pertwee/Delgado, but I also love the Twelve/Missy arc.
