Having a youth soccer branch:

- generates revenue.
- creates goodwill.
- gives the team a built-in, lifelong fanbase.
- is good PR.
- embeds your club in the community.

Cutting your youth program?

A corporate business decision that is the definition of penny smart, pound foolish.

But USL owners also are more likely to be worth ~$50m net, and so they can’t absorb millions of dollar losses. Gotta operate on balance.

Still unclear, 20 yrs on, if buying a USL team is a smart business investment.

10.03.2026 16:29 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Totally. USL owners are gambling - as are all lower league owners - that they’re buying an asset cheaper but that will still appreciate while they eat the losses.

USL is like buying a gallery painting of an unknown artist for $50k. Maybe it becomes worth $1mil. Maybe its a bored ape nft.

This post may have been brought to you by the fact that my stock investments have lost me $300 this FY

but betting on soccer has made me $31.47.

Capitalism is so dumb.

The more time I spend adulting

- working and saving and investing and spending and borrowing -

the more I think that capitalism is mostly bullshit.

I’ve always rejected that idea for sports teams. They aren’t businesses. They’re luxury goods that appreciate, like a Picasso.

You don’t buy a Picasso to charge fees to see it. You own it because you’re so fucking rich that you can, & it’s a unique good.

These are all billionaire toys. That’s it.

I don’t think positive cash flow matters.

My house doesn’t provide positive cash flow. But its appreciation 1) allows me to borrow against it for all sorta of things 2) means if I ever want to sell it and get a condo instead, I make a huge ROI.

Forget profit. Think ROI and asset valuation.

I say this roughly every year.

According to Forbes, they lose btw $1m and $4m every year.

However, the franchise was worth $31m in 2008, and are worth $415m now.

Thats a $21m appreciation each year.

I’d take that any day.

We should be complaining about the fact that the war costs a billion dollars a day and that the Pentagon just requested $60 billion from congress.

But aid to middle class families for health care was gutted last year and SNAP benefits were slashed.

Soldiers gotta eat. But we don’t need this war.

To be serious, you’ve nailed it.

Generations of folks were told β€˜Jesus overturned the table of the Pharisee moneylenders’

and that inaccurate narrative is slowly being countered; β€˜actually, for 10 centuries we brought offerings and needed a basic currency exchange.’

Folks resist that.

Article basically cites in detail how the moneychangers at the Beit HaMikdash broke a $20 into a $10 and two $5s.

I have no idea how our guy found a vast corrupt enterprise out of that.

Been a rabbi 20 years. Always been on the low side if what colleagues make. Still paying student loans. Dunno if I’ll ever have enough to retire. Yay!

Must read for USL fans.

Takeaway: it’s hard to survive financially in USL.

I mean, it sure fucked up the stock market.

And distracted folks from the Epstein files and Bibi’s neverending corruption trial.

Mission accomplished on those accounts.

Do you think the generals are planning things together

or is this war basically like two lieutenants at SAC and Israeli Intelligence picking out targets like its the 1980s video game Missile Command?

09.03.2026 21:28 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

1) it is wrong to bet on events that you yourself can influence. That’s basically the definition of corruption.

2) All these sports leagues blurred the lines when they actively accepted betting companies as sponsors.

Week 3: Very conservative.
- I put $10 on LAFC to beat Dallas at -261 and won $3.83.

Net overall, I'm up $39.24.

This has been your #KitMoney update.

08.03.2026 22:59 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Week 2:
- I put $25 on SD to beat SKC at -115 and won $21.74.
- I put $5 on an Austin-Charlotte draw. Charlotte won 3-1. Lost $5.

Net overall, I'm up $33.41.

08.03.2026 21:23 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 1

So far: we're doin' good!

Week 1:
- I put $25 on Arsenal to win UCL at +400
- I put $25 on LAFC to win MLS Cup at +500
So those ones are out of commission for a while.

And:
- I put $25 on San Diego to beat StL at -150.
That bet won me $16.67.

And if the gamblin' really goes well, I will also get the Riverhounds third kit this year. They call it 'the chromatic' but we should really call it 'The Warhol Bridges' Kit.

Stunning. Also $95.

We're back this year with 'betting hat money' - I set a goal of a thing I want to buy, I put down a small amount of money ($75) on soccer games, and I LET IT RIDE until I get the thing.

This year, we're trying to make $95 to get the NY Cosmos Away kit. Lookit that beauty.

I’m most likely to be shot in synagogue

accidentally by one of my congregants when they doze off during one of my sermons.

(But seriously: the statistics tell us that more citizens carrying guns increases firearms deaths.)

MLS goal of the week contender. Absolutely phenomenal run, shoulder-fake, step, and finish.

Darren Yapi wore sunglasses in mixed zone. He has a mark on his face from the shot he took off the face in the second half. He didn’t want people to see.
