A peaceful illustrated scene with a wooden bench, green grass, and soft blue skies. A yellow bird and a blackbird sit facing each other on the bench, with butterflies and birds flying above. The image includes the words: βEvery time we choose kindness, we create a space where someone feels seen and safe.β Picture by www.daddyblackbird.com
βToo often we underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring all of which have the potential to turn a life around.β Leo Buscaglia

So grateful to be back at the BCEDL conference (the 22nd!). We are sharing our culture with others who understand our context, which is something we sometimes struggle to find in our home districts because of the differences between in-person and online learning. πΏ #BCEDL #DLSymp25

A1: Speak up. I know it sounds simple, but speaking up to advocate for others who are being dismissed or insulted is the first step to giving them a voice when they may not have one. It can be done respectfully, but ensuring everyone is considered when decisions are made. #LeadLAP

"Where We're From." I am from calm lakes and rough seas, from loud colours and painted CDβs. I am from playing outside with friends and crafting with glue & sequins. I am from the warmth of a home. From the bright blue light of the TV screen. I am from cold, huge mountains, Sunday church & staying home with family at Christmas. I am from packed bags all through the summer. I am from the windows, high in the sky. I am from gazing at meteor showers and family movie nights. I am from broken hearts and sad faces. I am from watching sunsets float below the horizon. I am from family nights. From crowded malls and magical gardens, from crispy grass, tiny flowers and weeds. I am from the cities and mountains. I am from my protective family tree, of soldiers and love. I am from a hospital! I am from dogs; I play with them day and night. I am from tall mountains and calm lakes. I am from the dragon that flies in the sea. From sticky, sleepy summers. That is where Iβm from, and that is who I am.
We love this idea from 5th-grade teacher Iliana Sucre: βWe each wrote a poem based on George Lyonβs poem βWhere Iβm Fromβ and then picked our favourite line to make a whole-class poem. This is where we are from!β π§‘
What line would you add? #EdChat
