I started working in the seismology lab at the University of Washington in late March 1980 as the lab was being inundated with data from the many pre-eruption earthquakes. Later that summer, I was hired by the USGS and worked with earthquake data thru much of the 1980s. It was an exciting time!

Thank you for being part of the resistance! Through solidarity, resistance, and unity, we rise together, stronger and unshaken.
When I read a new interview from Harrisβs Dep Campaign Manager, it hit home for me because it was something I have warned about for years. Dems are losing the Information War, but there is one big way they can turn things around. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...
We cannot win if voters get their news about Democrats from Republicans.
Our party needs to show up everywhere if we want to beat the GOPβs edge and reshape the information environment.
That means deploying great communicators to deliver effective messages β everywhere.
Iβm doing the same thing. Taking a photo and including a short write-up of provenance. If I have a photo of the item in my parentsβ or grandparentsβ house , Iβll include that too. My folder of these write-ups is called βFamily Thingsβ and Iβll make sure my kids have a copy

Remember: fascism thrives on apathy.
The autocrats want you to tune out. They want to overwhelm you. They want you to give up.
Donβt give them want they want.
Stay in this fight. Remain vigilant. And letβs keep building.
I promise I will stand with you, the podcast family, & others looking for reliable information for the next four years. I will be there in times of uncertainty and anxiety, offering my best assessment of what is happening and what we can do to improve our public health world.
Feels like I'm just posting to the void since I'm just getting started here, but why not. I write a weekly newsletter, and this week I write about how far away from reading and critical thinking weβve come. It's lacking in our education, COVID learning loss, social media attention spans, all of it.
We know this because we lived this with Trump for the last eight years. Keeping focus is difficult. We're going to need to get better at this.
Perfect letter to send. Use it, and although one Bluesky follower reported that the link I provided to White House for President Biden and his sr gender advisor, Jennifer Klein, wasnβt working, I just tried it and got no bounce back. Try comments@whitehouse.org
One of my all-time favorite books!
Anyone else love The Happy Hollisters? I was probably about 7 or 8 when I discovered this series at our town library. This one was my favorite in the series
I spent hours looking at the photos in this book. Theyβre etched in my memory

You should probably get used to hearing this word a lot over the next few years.
The 1850s
Extreme division (N vs S)
Rampant threats & violence (even in Congress) to suppress opposition

Iβm thinking about the Trump Cabinet and new useless Dept of Govt Efficiency and worrying that Trump may get his team through recess appointments without Senate confirmation. Senate has never recessed solely to allow recess appointments and that would be abdication of their Constitutional role. Bad.
Morning friends. I'm so happy to be here w/you all on Bluesky. Let's focus on the points of light while we acknowledge the coming Trump darkness. Let's support & feed the points of light so that they grow stronger. We really are all in this together. And that's how we'll win. Together.
An antivax secdef is crazy. Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of human civilization than disease.
