I started working in the seismology lab at the University of Washington in late March 1980 as the lab was being inundated with data from the many pre-eruption earthquakes. Later that summer, I was hired by the USGS and worked with earthquake data thru much of the 1980s. It was an exciting time!

Thank you for being part of the resistance! Through solidarity, resistance, and unity, we rise together, stronger and unshaken.

The One Big Reason Why Dems Are Losing the Information War The good news is, this can be fixed with a new approach.

When I read a new interview from Harris’s Dep Campaign Manager, it hit home for me because it was something I have warned about for years. Dems are losing the Information War, but there is one big way they can turn things around. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...

We cannot win if voters get their news about Democrats from Republicans.

Our party needs to show up everywhere if we want to beat the GOP’s edge and reshape the information environment.

That means deploying great communicators to deliver effective messages – everywhere.

I’m doing the same thing. Taking a photo and including a short write-up of provenance. If I have a photo of the item in my parents’ or grandparents’ house , I’ll include that too. My folder of these write-ups is called β€˜Family Things’ and I’ll make sure my kids have a copy

Mississippi has a critical Supreme Court runoff election on Tuesday, November 26, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Write #PostcardsToVoters to keep Justice Jim Kitchens and defeat his MAGA Republican opponent. #Mississippi #OurFreedomsOurFutures

Remember: fascism thrives on apathy.

The autocrats want you to tune out. They want to overwhelm you. They want you to give up.

Don’t give them want they want.

Stay in this fight. Remain vigilant. And let’s keep building.

I promise I will stand with you, the podcast family, & others looking for reliable information for the next four years. I will be there in times of uncertainty and anxiety, offering my best assessment of what is happening and what we can do to improve our public health world.

We need to get back to reading and critical thinking Because 2024 feels different from 2016.

Feels like I'm just posting to the void since I'm just getting started here, but why not. I write a weekly newsletter, and this week I write about how far away from reading and critical thinking we’ve come. It's lacking in our education, COVID learning loss, social media attention spans, all of it.

We know this because we lived this with Trump for the last eight years. Keeping focus is difficult. We're going to need to get better at this.

Perfect letter to send. Use it, and although one Bluesky follower reported that the link I provided to White House for President Biden and his sr gender advisor, Jennifer Klein, wasn’t working, I just tried it and got no bounce back. Try comments@whitehouse.org

Anyone else love The Happy Hollisters? I was probably about 7 or 8 when I discovered this series at our town library. This one was my favorite in the series

The 1850s

Extreme division (N vs S)
Rampant threats & violence (even in Congress) to suppress opposition
Rampant "othering"
A new technology (telegraph) scrambling & spreading info

I’m thinking about the Trump Cabinet and new useless Dept of Govt Efficiency and worrying that Trump may get his team through recess appointments without Senate confirmation. Senate has never recessed solely to allow recess appointments and that would be abdication of their Constitutional role. Bad.

Morning friends. I'm so happy to be here w/you all on Bluesky. Let's focus on the points of light while we acknowledge the coming Trump darkness. Let's support & feed the points of light so that they grow stronger. We really are all in this together. And that's how we'll win. Together.

We're going to take over this place the same way we took over threads: by building up all of you

First, hit the like button, reply with #NoDemUnder1k, and most importantly, hit the REPOST button.

Then follow each other back. The easiest way to do so is to follow everyone who reposts.

Here's how:
