Digimon Story Time Stranger is a good example of fantastic gameplay, but mid story. It gets so boring around the second act, it just absolutely DRAGS the rest of the game down. It gets predictable, characters are no more than stereotypes, you just don't care by the end of it.

I think when I finally got Panette, my team was pretty much fully built and I was breezing through the game, so I didn't invest in her too much :( I remember the game being pretty short though, so I might go through another playthrough before the new one and add her to my team.

How is Quantic Dreams still in business? Their last game was in 2018, their Star Wars project was cancelled, and they still have lingering legal/PR issues. Lots of good unproblematic studios are closing left and right, but they somehow persist.
