In the midst of the 6th mass extinction event, we stand firmly opposed to an administration that is hampering our local food security & disrupting our community resilience. This is the opposite direction we need to be headed to survive the future.

Folks, local food needs your help now more than ever. The main things you can do to help:

🤝Volunteer: Food orgs that lost their grants are cutting staff, and need help. This isn't just intensive farm labor, but also administrative tasks as well, such as help manning the farmers market or outreach programs.

🤝Contribute money: Whether through donation or purchase of goods, money is what is directly lacking. Go to your local farmer's market.

🤝Spread the word: Knowledge is power. Talk to your friends about this. Create a plan on how to get and distribute food. Invite your neighbor over for dinner and start that awkward conversation.

🤝Strengthen community: Create a resilience plan for your friends and family. *Make sure* local food is part of that plan. Bring friends with you to volunteer. Start a garden with your friends (a two for one)!

Please take the time to read the two posts these images came from. I'll post links to them in the comments (just so this post's reach isn't hampered). After that, If you want to help but don't know where to start, send us a message and we can hook you up.

We are stronger together. Stay safe out there, friends!

Who's had *enough* politics over the last few weeks? Sorry folks, but even though we don't usually do this, it's time to get political.

Two KC organizations dear to our hearts have had funding cut: Ivanhoe Farmers' Market and KC Farm School at Gibbs Road. (Rest of post in the "alt text")...

"The move toward a local food economy is not just about freshness and food miles and carbon footprint and organic matter. It is about all those things, but it's also about the deep human desire for connection. For honor. To be in reciprocity with the gifts that are given to you."

Have you read the new Robin Wall Kimmerer book yet? What a fantastic and hopeful book. We loved her shoutout to the local food movement!

Question: what kind of food is it?

Answer: we love doing fun stuff and exploring new things, so our menus are eclectic. See for yourself by scrolling through the invites in our posts.

1/2 of our founding team is gluten-free, so we always have good GF options. Often, we also have vegetarian and vegan options. And not that bullshit where they just substitute processed garbage - real, intentionally crafted options.

Questin: how much food do you serve?

Answer: we usually serve enough that there are several people who can't eat it all. Which is great, because I eat what they don't want. It's not weird, it's waste reduction. Delicious, delicious waste reduction.

Imagine you are at a medium-fancy restaurant. Not fancy enough that the host gives you snide looks of you come I wearing jeans, but more like a good farm-to-table. You get a salad, appetizer, entree, dessert and drink and end up paying about $60. It's about that much food.

Q: I can donate money or time? Whaaaat?

Answer: we all need to pay bills, so we are grateful for monetary donations. However, your donation doesn't have to be money! We are standing up against the profit-driven market economy we find ourselves stuck in. We love the idea of gift economy, and believe people should have access to high quality local food no matter what they can offer.
We also run Locavore Regenerative Farm and the Growcery suburban farms. There are ALWAYS projects going on and help wanted. Want to help us plant or weed? We'd love that! Have any skills? Carpentry, marketing, construction, photography, sewing, and many other talents could be helpful to us.

Question: how much should I donate?

Answer: when we first started, we had a reccomend donation of $10. We've had other reccomended amounts over the years - but really, we want to do away with any expectation of amount. Our events are F - R - E - E.

If you wanna donate whatever spare change is in your pocket, that's fine. If you were totally blown away, and compelled to contribute your life savings of $300, then great! You can even donate in multiples od pi. Just don't donate negative dollars. That would be bad.

What is Locavore? Well, it's a bit hard to describe us in 300 characters or less. So I made this handy FAQ! (Part 1/2)
