Yes, the Nazis gave mothers medals, but they got their ideas from American Eugenics. Back in the 1920s, the US awarded them to the “fittest” white families during #pronatalist Fitter Families events at state fairs. The medals said: “Yea, I have goodly heritage” aka were reproductively desirable.

The realities of Romania's #pronatalist scheme was so devastating (so many women dead from illegal abortions, an entire generation of children left at orphanages because parents could not support them) that @margaretatwood.bsky.social said it was one of the inspirations for Handmaid's Tale.
Pronatalism weaponized: Baby bonuses, fertility classes, scholarships don't raise the birth rates. The only 'reliable' way to get women to have more babies is to outlaw contraception and abortion. See: Romania in the 80s and 90s & the devastating results www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...
