What's nice about the Pebble is that because the watch never loses BLE pairing with the phone, I can go into settings on the watch and back to force a refresh, which takes only a second. With my own smartwatch I had to bring the iOS app into the foreground every so often to get it to pair again.

The BLE connection between the Pebble and the iOS app is rock solid in my testing, however once my iPhone is inactive, iOS throttles the Pebble app to only a single Dexcom API request per hour, as seen here. While wearing the watch, the connection and data seems more reliably up to date.

Over the weekend I ported the smartwatch software from my custom T1D smartwatch to the new Pebble 2 Duo. I'm enjoying the always-on e-paper screen, however it can be challenging to read, especially in low light conditions. github.com/andrewchilds...

A photo of a M5Stick device with a Dexcom-like CGM display.
Current side-project: seeing if I can get a Dexcom-like CGM UI on a tiny $20 watch, so my son doesnβt have to carry his devices with him on the playground. tldr: it works! but battery life is probably far too short to make it work as a watch. An e-ink display might work better. #t1d
