this might be more a of Twitter-heyday-era throwback, but for folks coming to #SfN25 my lab has 2 awesome posters on Sat 1-5pm! In GG2 we look at the impact of contextual overlap on brain activity patterns & in HH5 we try to understand why overlapping information can sometimes help vs hurt learning

And, although OA overall recall less items and make more memory errors than YA, everyone shows similar patterns in their memory errors: (1) More sound-based than meaning-based memory errors and (2) More memory errors from the earliest study positions. Again, evidence for shared memory stores.

But here, we find evidence for SHARED memory stores & CONTINUITY of processing w aging. Both YA & OA make meaning- and sound-based errors (βfalse memoriesβ) from ALL list positions. This is exciting because it refutes the idea that the type of coding is tied to different underlying memory stores.

Classically, we would predict that early list positions rely on long-term, meaning-based (semantic) codes whereas late list positions rely on short-term, sound-based (phonological) codes. And w/ aging, we would expect more robust preservation of semantic (vs phonological) codes

Aging and false memories: Comparing effects of item-relatedness and list position
Semantic false memories are traditionally more frequent from early list positions and thought to arise from presumed long-term memory stores whereas phonological false memories traditionally are more ...
I'm not a big poster, but had to share how proud I am of my postdoc, Lauri Gurguryan, for submitting the FIRST paper from my lab π
Here, we ask a classic ? Do short- and long-term memory rely on separate or shared underlying stores

Movie-watching evokes ripple-like activity within events and at event boundaries
Nature Communications - The neural processes involved in memory formation for realistic experiences remain poorly understood. Here, the authors found that ripple-like activity in the human...

We investigated how hippocampal and cortical ripples support memory during movie watching. We found that:
π¬ Hippocampal ripples mark event boundaries
𧩠Cortical ripples predict later recall
Ripples may help transform real-life experiences into lasting memories!

Each day of the week is listed with a specific hashtag theme: Monday, July 29: #BlackInNeuro RollCall (in a yellow bubble). Tuesday, July 30: #NeuroAcrossTheDiaspora (in a light green bubble). Wednesday, July 31: #BlackInNeuroCareers (in a blue bubble). Thursday, August 1: #NeuroRacism (in a light blue bubble). Friday, August 2: #BlackInNeuroFutures (in a purple bubble). Saturday, August 3: #BlackJoyInNeuro (in a light pink bubble). Sunday, August 4: #BlackRestInNeuro (in a red bubble). The design includes the hashtag #BINW24 and the Black In Neuro logo located in the bottom left corner.
The FIFTH Black In Neuro Week is just a few weeks away. Hereβs a sneak peak at our day themes, and keep an eye out for registration details. #BINW24 #BlackInSTEM #Neuroscience π§ͺ
