Thank you again for appreciating it. I still have to work out some stuff like adjusting the light levels and blending the darkness of Midgar in the background but otherwise I think it is near its finish point.

You don't have to like it all, but the new non-planeswalking shenanigans featured in Universes Beyond sets have brought in a huge number of new players to the game and for that alone, I'm grateful...and I'll keep being grateful even as my wife makes a Jodah/SpongeBob deck
I'm happy because this game has still been here and thrived while my life was hard and I couldn't see it all. I'm happy because it gave me community and friends again. I'm happy that my wife has been able to build meme-decks and be silly with it in her own way. Magic has been here and continues...
We both enjoy Magic. We have both geeked out over the Fallout and Dr Who and LOTR sets. We can't wait for Final Fantasy since we have both started playing XIV. Even with SpiderMan and SpongeBob, even if those aren't for me, I'm happy...
I came back at the end of COVID finally trying to find something "normal" again. I found friends. When I found the woman who would be my wife, it was at MagicCon Vegas in 2022 that she was able to feel like herself in public for the first time since coming out as trans.
I've been playing #Magic since Ice Age. I've been there just as the game was coming out of the Dark. I had friends and a game group I thought I'd know forever...but life is horrible at times and while suffering abuses, seeing homelessness and more....I had to leave the game twice.
On the increasingly contentious matter of Universes Beyond and people's fear of where Magic is headed I have to say something. As a preface; I know I'm not anybody important. I'm not a @goberthicks.bsky.social @rachelweeks.bsky.social @tolariancommunitycollege.com @spice8rack.bsky.social or the like
Maybe it's a sort of self-dig statement by WOTC about how some feel suffocated by the encroaching oppressive nature of UB stuff saturating the game...
Or perhaps they wanted to make said oppressive commander decks feel more "fun" with happy SpongeBob imagery?
...yeah...let's go with that one
4) The meme image ones like Counterspell and Nights Whisper are perfect
5) The fact that they are just reskins keeps them firmly in Commander which I image was the plan for this from the get-go
6) Overall I think it's good enough as a Secret Lair and didn't need to be bigger
3) This also makes some hit pretty hard even if the reskins are off flavor-wise; i.e Patrick being a keyword-less legend is great but being Barktooth seems off because he should be Jund at least or Plankton being Skrelv (he should be Orzhov at best) sort of works
Here's my take:
1) We have to remember these were probably thought out at least two years ago before being finalized
2) I think using the memeable images for the cards rather than original art feels like it would be the only way it should go given how iconic they are.
