Yes, in the seventies and eighties they had opportunities to socialize, particularly when they had evening sittings. That changed in the early nineties when they ended those, and suddenly collegiality took a major blow. It's been declining ever since.

Opposition parties call for clarity from government as MPs debate Iran war OTTAWA - Prime Minister Mark Carney was absent from a debate on the U.S.-Israel war on Iran as opposition parties continued to question the government's position on the conflict.

It's might curious that @cdnpress.bsky.social just outright ignored the Conservatives' whole line of attack today that Trudeau's supposed "open border" let in a bunch of Iranian terrorists and that they are shooting up synagogues. No mention of it in their write-up at all.
Just irresponsible.

Per Jason Kenney, a former defence minister, only straight white men can defend the country. Everything else is DEI.

I mean, if you want to go back in time and say that hey, all you buyers who don't want to sign a long-term contract, you're going to to regret it in 2026, then sure, fill your boots.
But that's not what the market has been saying post-2014.

Child care was not contingent on the NDP. Dental care was done in the worst way possible that can be easily cancelled by a future Conservative government because of the NDP's insistence on that particular funding model, and they walked away from their agreement in bad faith.

Nooooooooope.
Since 2019, we have had unrelenting procedural warfare in the House of Commons. Look at the paltry numbers of bills that have passed in that period. This notion that minority parliaments (not governments) breed cooperation is frankly grade school nonsense.

Minister Joly’s statement on the outcome of the further national security review of TikTok Technology Canada Inc. under the Investment Canada Act
From: Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
Statement
March 9, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario
The Honourable MΓ©lanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, made the following statement:
β€œThe Government of Canada has completed the further national security review of the investment by TikTok Technology Canada Inc. (TikTok Canada) under the Investment Canada Act and has decided to permit the investment to proceed, subject to new legally binding undertakings provided by TikTok Canada.
β€œThe decision follows a thorough assessment of the information and evidence gathered during the review process, including advice from Canada’s security and intelligence community and other government partners. Protecting Canadians’ data and the safety of children online will always be a top priority of the government.
Aligned with a similar approach taken by the European Union (EU), the government has negotiated enhanced undertakings through this further review, establishing clear guardrails that will better protect Canadians’ data and place Canada in a stronger position with respect to data security and regulatory oversight:
TikTok will implement enhanced protection for Canadians’ personal information, including new security gateways and privacy-enhancing technologies to control access to Canadian user data in order to reduce the risk of unauthorized or prohibited access.
TikTok will implement enhanced protections for minors consistent with the findings and recommendations of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s joint investigation of TikTok Pte. Ltd.
To ensure transparency, as has been done in the EU, an independent third-party monitor will be appointed to audit and continuously verify data access controls.
β€œThe Government of Canada will exercise its full authorities under …

Prime Minister Carney to travel to Norway and the United Kingdom to strengthen collective defence and security

March 9, 2026
Ottawa, Ontario

In a more dangerous and divided world, regions once considered isolated from global tensions are becoming areas of growing competition. The Arctic is at the centre of this shift. To protect Canadian sovereignty and the collective security of our Allies, Canada’s new government is strengthening our presence in the North, deepening our security and economic partnerships, and building our domestic defence capabilities.

To these ends, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, today announced that he will travel to Bardufoss and Oslo, Norway, from March 13 to 15, 2026. In Bardufoss, the Prime Minister will observe the Norwegian-led NATO Exercise Cold Response, where troops from 14 Allied nations will gather above the Arctic Circle to enhance the Alliance’s readiness, interoperability, and defence capabilities. This exercise is an important demonstration of NATO’s shared resolve to defend the Alliance's northern flank – supported by the participation of its newest members, Sweden and Finland, at this critical moment.

In Oslo, Prime Minister Carney will meet with the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr StΓΈre, to advance the Canada-Norway relationship across trade, investment, clean energy, critical minerals, and aerospace. Prime Minister Carney will then attend the Canada-Nordic Summit and meet with other Nordic partners to deepen geopolitical coordination and enhance transatlantic security, including in the North.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also engage with business leaders to position Canada as a premier destination for global capital and investment, particularly in the defence, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence sectors.

The Prime Minister will then travel to London, United Kingdom, where he will meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to discuss a range of issues, including collective defence, global …
