Karasaad is used to take responsibility and accept the consequences since he was 15.
He's obsessed with doing things better. Learn from his mistakes, giving everything to help in the aftermath of his “bad decisions”. That doesn't help with grief, tho. Deep down, he just tortures himself.
I was a writer at BioWare for 5 years (2011-2016). I leaned a lot during that time from exceptional folx in many disciplines, but also specifically from my fellow writers & our amazing editors, on both the ME & DA brands.

What did your Rook think of your Inquisitor?

First thought was mistrust: Inquisitor is a Vasoth who let's herself be known as the Herald of Andraste. Karasaad follows the Qun, so... Not happy about it.
He calmed down the moment he knew her better, tho. (Harding's stories helped)

If he had to chose one, it'd be with the dar-saam. Now Karasaad ties them tight, with intricate knots, but his skill comes from his father, who made him undo them and repeat if he thought they were incorrect. But his father sat by his side, undoing his own and letting him see how he tied them again.

What is your Rook's most cherished memory?

His father in general. It's totally unheard of a qunari even knowing who their parents even are, but Karasaad cherishes every moment he spent with his father and the way his lessons have made him a better warrior and a better person.
Some characters are comfort characters the way a weighted blanket is a comfort object, and some are comfort characters the way a stress ball is a comfort object
Karasaad suffers from survivor's guilt, and cannot understand why the saarebas saved him instead of just fighting or trying to free himself.
(Also, Karasaad had a kind conversation with him just the night before, which was obviously the first one the mage had in a long time.)

Before the events of the game, did your Rook witness anything that fundamentally changed them? Why did it affect them the way it did?

When his platoon was attacked, the known blood mage among the saarebas healed/protected Karasaad before killing himself and every enemy nearby.
This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.
I know. I was there in those camps.
