The color the fur is painted with separates into bluish, reddish and brownish in some areas giving the painting some texture.
Little Wizbit is one of the pets that made it into this years Christmas pet portrait raffle - love the pose and the fluffyness.
I know the owner is an artist too, who enjoys granulation and so I leaned into it for the fur and background a lot.

New watercolor tutorial went live today, it's a sunlit autumn forest. Painting sunlit spaces can be tricky in watercolor and you need to adjust and leave enough white to make it actually look sunny and light.

Had a Eurasian pygmy owl against my window last week! It took 10 minutes to get to its senses, before it flew away unharmed.
Of course I had to paint it, so did some watercolor studies in my Steamline sketchbook. I am still so chuffed about this special meeting, never seen these owls alive before!

gouache painting of a swallow on green paper, the painting is opaque and covers the green nicely, though it shows around the painted area a lot. The swallow sits on a railing made of a thick rope. The face is orange with a tiny beak and it's very fluffy.
A little experiment with gouache on tinted paper... the tinted paper is not the experiment, but the kind of paper. It's mixed media and not really ideal for wet media, but it behaved well enough and I like the green hue a lot.
