Happy Birthday, Toby. 🎊 That must have been a wonderful dig to work on: an impressive site.

These fragments have long been hidden away in the British Museum's store. Big thanks to both museums for making them available to be enjoyed. Maybe the remaining fragments can join them one day? 🤞 2/2

Three fragments of Roman mosaic. At top left, a leopard between two trees. At top right, a hound and a boar separated by a tree, with part of a rectangular compartment below; this shows a rosette with three birds to the right. At bottom, a small fragment with a bear.

On #MosaicMonday over the last few weeks, I've been paying tribute to the wonderful animals from the Withington Orpheus mosaic as depicted in Lysons's engravings. It was a great thrill to see the originals again last week, now displayed in the excellent Corinium Museum. 1/2

A weathered and pitted stone standing within a fenced enclosure. The stone is slender and higher on the left side where it looks like a pointing finger. The sky is blue and almost cloudless.

For #StandingStoneSunday, the King Stone at Rollright in glorious sunshine a few days ago, just on the opposite side of the road from the stone circle.

The church leaflet doesn't give an age but online information suggests 300 years old.

For #AdoorableThursday, the famous and rather lovely north porch door at St Edward's Church, Stow-on-the-Wold, which might - or might not - have inspired Tolkien.

Give him a gentle cuddle and soothing strokes from me, and I hope he manages to have a restful time soon (and that you and your husband do, too!).

Bonus post no. 2 for this #MosaicMonday: a new book on mosaics is always exciting, and this one by Steve Cosh - which is about to be published - should be illustrated with lots of lovely pictures. Looking forward to getting my copy soon! 1/2

I can see it working well for that but not aware this stimulating idea has been published 😀. Maybe you could write a paper?
