I will be following up with The Public Interest News Foundation and coordinating a meeting in the constituency to see what we can do to ensure local media and that we guarantee sustainable funding for independent, trusted local news.
I will be following up with The Public Interest News Foundation and coordinating a meeting in the constituency to see what we can do to ensure local media and that we guarantee sustainable funding for independent, trusted local news.
Without local news provision, people lose access to the information they need to understand whatβs happening around them.
We have some good local media but it was concerning to see our constituency is one of the worst served for media in the UK.
Local media plays a vital role in keeping people informed about what is happening in their communities and in education.
"The North East has always been a cultural powerhouse and I'm looking forward to us having a new world class arena here in Gateshead to showcase our wonderful talent and creativity."
Kate Osborne MP for Jarrow and Gateshead East welcomed the announcement from the Mayor and said:
"This much needed investment will be brilliant for the people of Gateshead and bring wider benefits across the North East..
Good to see local coverage of plans for a new arena on the banks of the Tyne & Β£24 million investment Kim McGuinness- North East Mayor
Annual season ticket prices for premier league football are unnecessary, all fans should be able to afford to go see their team without huge costs
Thanks to Shields Gazette for picking up this story & my calls on big clubs to #StopExploitingLoyalty @wearethefsa.bsky.social
Fans are being priced out of football and clubs must realise that football without fans is nothing.
This week the Key Community bus will be out and about across South Tyneside!
On the bus there will be more amazing deals on food & household items - everyoneβs welcome!
The Key Community bus trialling an expanded timetable until the end of March β now with 3 stops per day instead of 2!
Through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Iβm proud to work with colleagues across the Commonwealth to advance democracy, justice and a more sustainable future for all.

Everyone is welcome!
Iβve raised football ticket prices in Parliament and now have joined colleagues tabling a motion against season ticket increases.
So many people are being priced out of football, big clubs must stop taking advantage of fan loyalty by raising prices unnecessarily
Football without fans is nothing
I want to also thank and acknowledge the tireless campaigning by Covid19 Bereaved Families for Justice and show my support to their fight to ensure those in power are held to account, and ensure that lessons are learnt.
As we mark this national Day of Reflection, we honour the families and communities who lost loved ones, pay tribute to the NHS staff, key workers and volunteers whose dedication carried us through.
Today is Covid Memorial Day, and whilst the losses will never be forgotten, today we can all spend a moment reflecting on every life lost to the pandemic and the profound impact Covid had and has across the UK.
And I will keep fighting to ensure that we do even more, especially for LBQT women, and to ensure we see greater improvement in womenβs health.
So happy International Womenβs Day β letβs celebrate our collective power, and recommit to the fight for rights, for justice, and for all women and girls.
Introducing statutory maternity pay from day one, taking decisive action to tackle the epidemic of violence against women & girls, which spiralled under previous Conservative governments.
We are embedding domestic abuse specialists in every 999-control room ensuring immediate support for survivors.
The Labour Government is taking steps to tackle these issues through our landmark VAWG strategy to strengthen womenβs rights at work through our Employment Rights Act
Intersectionality means that working class women, Black women, disabled women and LBQT women often receive abuse more frequently and abuse that is compounded and more intense.
We have also seen a rise in sexism and misogyny fuelled by toxic online behaviour - 73% of social media users have witnessed misogynistic content online and itβs something I and many other women experience everyday on social media.
Progress has been made over the years, we still have much more to do.
Women are the shock absorbers of poverty, violence against women and girls still remains at a crisis level and women continue to face systemic discrimination in workplaces, healthcare, politics and in society.
Today on IWD we celebrate the achievements, resilience and strength of women and girls everywhere β from local women in Jarrow and Gateshead East leading the way in our communities to women nationally such as our Lionesses who have inspired a generation of girls into the game.
My social media consultation is still open π
If you live in Jarrow and Gateshead East, I want to know your views on how social media affects young people - especially in relation to the suggested ban of social media for under-16s. Please complete my survey here https://forms.office.com/r/byHPxNrqyE

Great to drop into the Trades Union Congress and Liberty parliamentary event this week and pledge my support in defending the European Convention on Human Rights.
Leaving the ECHR would severely undermine workers rights and access to justice.
Thousands of children go missing every year, many of whom are at risk of child criminal and sexual exploitation.
We can all #LookCloser to spot the signs of harm and take action. I met with The Children's Society and took the pledge to #LookCloser to keep young people safe.
This #EndometriosisAwarenessMonth I met with Endometriosis UK to give my support to their important work supporting those living with Endometriosis
We urgently need to reduce diagnosis time & raise awareness of impact endometriosis has on physical & mental health, relationships, education and work
