S'mhivre at a bar with Thancred quoting a post that says "hey masochists. tip. if your domme is made and drunk she'll hit harder. pour her a drink." S'mhivre is giving Thancred a smug look, while he just looks kind of tired and annoyed

s'mhivre is from a vineyard in a rural part of eastern la noscea :3 my headcanon is that traditional sun seeker hunting lifestyles became more difficult to sustain as vylbrand's population grew, so part of the S tribe split off and founded a winery to supplement their resources with trade

YOU - What am I doing?
SHIVERS - Looking up at the sky, cold water dripping from your hair.
YOU - What do I see?
SHIVERS - Grey sky like great battleships, clouds colliding with one another. Rain falls down on the world.
YOU - βI'd like to dedicate this song to my partner, Kim Kitsuragi.β (Nod to the lieutenant.)

"Knight of the Dragonsong War"
tumblr post by pawthorn (15h ago): Was chatting with an acquaintance who was very like-minded politically and we both enjoy ttrpgs and actual playβspecifically Critical Role and Dimension 20. It surprised me when she said she loved trpgs because they 'allow people to explore nonviolent solutions. This was honestly kinda confusing considering the properties we were talking about. I know there are plenty of nonviolent games, but D20 and CR are not great examples of that. And it got me thinking about how people approach violence vs nonviolence in games. I've heard people- in person and online- brag that they always just unionize the goblins! They fight the dragon that personifies capitalism! So there's this ideal that that is the better way to play. That there's something morally superior about succeeding through nonviolence and only fighting the right kind of enemies. And if that's a fantasy you enjoy, great! Have fun! But it's still a fantasy. Being a nonviolent sweetheart vs an evil nasty character says nothing about you because it's pretend.
For me, the nonviolent solutions where systems of power and control are deconstructed in a few rolls and a few nice statements can feel deeply hollow and a little insulting. "The goblins just needed these very special adventures to explain that they could make better choices, and it fixed their society!" is just as much a fantasy as swinging a sword to fulfill a prophecy. If your character has power-either social, political, physical, or magical- and they move through the world making changes and achieving their goals, they are exerting power over others, and that is true whether it's physically violent or not. Let's not forget, not all violence is physical. None of this is to say that we should accept all the harmful implications that are rooted in fantasy-specific races being naturally evil sucks across the board. But nonviolent play also can carry harmful implications (white saviorism, noble savage, etc). Both violent and nonviolent playstyles can uphold harmful assumptions and biases, and I think any player with critical thinking skills should interrogate them.
But just as I can enjoy Lord of the Rings while maintaining a critical eye toward how the orcs and non-white humans are portrayed and treated, I can engage in a trpg that doesn't always make the best and most enlightened choices. Because I'm an adult with a brain and it's pretend. We're lucky enough to see in AramΓ‘n a great example of how to engage with these harmful fantasy tropes in an honest and constructive-or deconstructive? βway. I honestly think it's one of the most elevated examples of the genre in existence. And it isn't non-violent. The characters have power and wield it to achieve their goals. So let's engage with the story that's being told by the characters in front of us rather than pretend it's something else entirely. Let's use our critical thinking. Let's worry about doing the right thing in real life more than we do when we're playing pretend.
this post is about ttrpgs, but it feels especially relevant in light of discussions on the wolβs actions in later expansions in ff14, and the narrativeβs increasing unwillingness to cast their actions in any kind of morally questionable light
