Every now and then you’ll see someone on a forum just not clicking with a game and not able to overcome it’s challenge and all they’ll do is piss and moan about it and get in the way of the actual discussion. They clearly aren’t enjoying it. Pointing this out isn’t the same as saying “get good”
I think the prevalence of jerks sincerely saying “get gud” as a genuine dismissive response to someone having a hard time, while definitely there, is overstated.
Sometimes though the only thing you can say to someone having a hard time is “I dunno, maybe you can’t do it?”

You’re right. Plus, I’m not gonna pretend that discussion of difficult games from the opposite side isn’t guilty of being intensely annoying too. I always chuckle when a dark souls boss guide says something like “simply dodge or parry the attacks killing you” but I understand why that irritates many
I also feel like the discussion of video games has to contend with a lot more fomo from people. Paired with the fact that it’s a medium where people stubbornly refuse to accept that not every game is for everyone (and that’s fine) you’ve got a recipe for tedious discourse
Agreed. I personally enjoy a challenging game but there’s room for all sorts of experiences in the medium. The problem really is that difficult games are the only games that seem to come under fire for being what they wanted to be

Yeah, good point. There’s also that whole psychological aspect to it where a lot of people don’t feel relaxed if what they’re engaged with is mentally taxing. I’m not 100% unsympathetic to this, I generally only play games Friday nights / weekends because I come home from work too tired for it

I contend that anyone can get into a difficult game it just takes time and patience same as with a difficult book or movie. The problem with games is only a handful of people actually respect them as an artistic medium enough to do this and this further irritates those who don’t
The trick of it is that everyone wants to be perceived as a reader but very few want to read. When it comes to gaming the inverse is true, people want to play video games but nobody wants to actually get into them (mostly ‘cause of insecurity)

I think we’ll get two sets of “mini game” DLC alongside the story one. Mercenaries is an inevitability but I actually think the mini game they’ve been talking about is similar to RE7’s dlc and done in the Grace style
I genuinely think that now Capcom are able to make both good classic and action RE games again they are stuck between the two and deathly afraid of fucking it up again
Yeah, I know what you mean. Which is maddening because what feels like the clear logical move is to go back to that approach and say one for classic one for action.
Yeah. That and I think it’s a hell of a lot easier to make a smaller contained Leon / action campaign compared to a traditional RE experience
The problem with the revelation games was not the idea, it makes sense to have two branches of Resident Evil that focus on the series two parallel strengths. The problem was they were made by Capcom during their wheel spinning period
Also, speaking as someone who is a lot more positive on RE9 (it’s still an all timer for me) I’ve still not changed from my earlier sentiment of “this should have been two games and they should try giving the revelations experiment another shot”
I’m curious to see which way the newly announced story DLC will lean. It’ll of been in development long before reactions to the game could massively influence it but I can’t help but wonder if it’ll lean more Grace or Leon style
