Wait you can turn reskeets off?
Want to be peeved about cnn calling canishower.com and their predictive modeling "AI", but tbh it's worse that the headline question is "can AI predict missile strikes", instead of "how mentally broken does a person need to be for them to offload such decisions to what is basically astrology" (lots)
HCI summer research opportunity ๐ฃ My group has two openings for research assistants this summer, both in scientific tools for thought. Applicants are welcome at any level. Please help me share the news! andrewhead.info/positions/20...
I think it's a question of where you draw the "boilerplate" line, though? For "pure" boilerplate you can abstract things away with libraries/language features for a better result tbh. If it's "boring things I don't like implementing" the water is murkier.

I mean, I thought about taking a flight with a 12 hour connection where it makes sense to go out into the city, does that count
TIL that the Iran version predates the Iraq version I had an mp3 of as a kid
The thing about the U.S. and Israel is that both of their leaders are trying to stay out of prison.
under pressure
This is the kind of stuff I'm on social for
Still my impression as a total outsider so yeah
Also are you excluding OOPSLA or ICFP so I know if I'm insulted or amused ๐คก
I think the difference is starting to fade so it's a lot of the time luck of the draw re: reviewers; as long as your PL foundations are in there and your general idea fits the vague character of the conference (eg, PLDI=more practical), it's the usual coin toss, probably no worse.
Also I'm just referencing this :P
I teach C++ to students who were not born when the last C++ compiler I used professionally in an adult job for money was released. Someone called Mean Girls, a movie that came out when I could drive, an old time movie. I'm standing in my grave here.
Someone on here, while reminding me I'm very old thank you, reminded me that Hurricane Sandy was the only time I ever saw the PLDI deadline postponed. And, if I may have a word with this upcoming blizzard, I could really use some extra time on this OOPSLA submission kthx
Oh shit I missed archivists on the list,,, I want to see an LLM get a rusty staple out of a 50 year old letter

I wonder what they think a historian does
Page from a book reading: FOREWORD THERE exists a subculture of dedicated academics who view spending a decade masochistically overworked and under-appreciated as a laudable goal. They lead the lives of the impoverished, grade the exams of the whiny, and spend lonely nights in the library or laboratory pursuing a glowing truth that only six or seven people will ever care about. These people are grad students, and they are idiots.
I feel so seen
Packages that arrive too late:
Did Deutsche Bahn spend a bunch of money to internationally post a letter (in German!) letting me know the request I submitted (online!) for compensation has been accepted and giving me a voucher number (on paper!) that I will definitely forget about or lose? They sure did!!!
lol
They did say they'll release R1 rejections this week which I guess is the cause for the tingle?
I made it!!
Train 3/3 is a go! In my original plan this would have been the train I would have taken from much further north if delays had made the walk in the original connection too short, and being able to swap to it was the reason I sprung for a flex ticket. Lol, I guess?
