Today, we kicked off this term's department seminar series with Dr. Michael Pons (@michapons.bsky.social) coming from @gfz.bsky.social. He presented his research on geodynamic modeling of tectonic activity on Earth and Venus ππ
#DUresearch #Modeling #GFZ
3rd paper from @poulamiroy.bsky.social's Ph.D. just out at doi.org/10.1029/2025.... Combined global models of mantle flow and anisotropy constrain deformation mechanisms and viscosity, density and hence compositional structure of lowermost mantle. With Manuele Faccenda, @michapons.bsky.social & me.
Deadline on June 15th βTake a moment to nominate a colleague or early career scientist for an EGU Geodynamics Division award. Itβs quick to do and a great way to recognize their work!

Hey everyone, hereβs a video of a talk I gave yesterday for the Geological Association of Argentina about the geodynamics of the Central Andes. Sorry for my French accent, which somehow gets even stronger in situations like this π www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD7U...
Wondering what is the anisotropic signature of slab-induced plumes from thermochemical piles in the lowermost mantle? Then find out from Poulami Roy's paper agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/... co-authored by Manuele Faccenda, @michapons.bsky.social and myself
Six Hundred Leagues Under the Earth This geodynamic model of the Earth at 850 Ma explores the expression and evolution of the Earth's surface as a result of the complex interaction between cold subduction and warm mantle plumes. Model developed using ASPECT geodynamics code and visualised using Paraview.
Hey everyone π
My global geodynamic numerical model of the Earth is part of the Helmholtz Imaging Best Scientific Image Contest 2025! Iβd really appreciate your support π€, feel free to check it out and vote if you like it π³οΈ π

π One event you wonβt want to miss at #EGU25 is the Geodynamics ECS Dinnerβa fantastic chance to meet and connect with fellow early career scientists from around the world!
π Reserve your spot (limited seats!): forms.gle/KiM8wK3WGGN9...

Paper alert! π¨
We investigate how the geometry of the fault network affects seismic sequences on normal faults, and how this might affect seismic hazard assessment using physics-based models of earthquakes.

Scientific recycling: In doi.org/10.1029/2024... I use results from Poulami Roy's Ph.D. thesis to address why plume excess temperatures are much less than temperature drop across the lowermost-mantle thermal boundary layer. Further co-authors @michapons.bsky.social and Matteo Jopke. (continued)
Two days left to vote for @The_GA Journal Awards!
I'm delighted that my tectonics article (using seismic tomography to take fieldtrips to the mantle) is in the final three.
I would appreciate a vote from any GA member who found it helpful.

Youβre working on your #EGU25 abstract and thinking about signing up for the OSPP award? π We talked to some people to help you understand how to participate and make the most of it πππ
