This field is flooded with people who are just in it because they heard programmers make six digits. I can count the number of people in my CS cohort with even a baseline interest in the craft of programming on a single, cloven-hooved hand-paw.

Don't lose that curiosity. Don't give it away to AI.

I take immense pride in the code that I write. I value to a great extent efficient use of resources, out of basic respect to the critter kind enough to run my code on their machine. There's entire communities dedicated to this efficiency as an artform, and AI spits in the face of it.

I don't think nearly enough people are mad at AI "programming."

Not just because it creates Windows code that fries your SSDs, not just because it disproportionately feeds off of the unpaid work of open source developers while disrespecting their licenses, but because programming is an artform too.
