Could there be a worse time in history to release this
Ruin a #Transformers name by changing a letter:
Opticus Crime
Overload - 1989.
Hot House - 1989.
The Lord of Skellweb slithers out from the Earth’s crust under cover of darkness to spread his putrid necrotic contagion. His one command - D’COMPOSE!!!!!
D’Compose’s “glow-in-the-light” teeth. Which are very horsey. Also check his mane - er, hair - blowing in the cool night air
D’Compose captures are human sighing his ribcage. Can’t imagine it smells particularly nice in there…
With one simple command (D’Compose!!!) the luckless soldier is reduced to a skeletal horror, a zombie completely under the foul control of D’Compose. These undead legions (represented by some junker Skeleton Warriors) are almost unstoppable though thankfully sunlight can cure the condition
#vintagetoytuesday 1/3 🧵 Inhumanoids D’Compose! A nightmare from below, this lord of necrosis is a putrid ambulatory lump of rotting flesh & bone with the power to turn any living thing he touches into an undead horror under his evil control. Only “whiteburn” (sunlight) can counter his dark power…
Landmine - 1988.
"Behold, Autobots. Scorponok - the biggest, most mighty Transformer of....oh. OH."
Flatline
That rarest of creatures, a principled Decepticon. Though he believes in the cause he also took an oath as a medic and will administer aid to anyone requiring his aid. Even if it is only to bring an Autobot back to functionality so that they can be executed.
#Transformers
Transformers Tote! Tote’s adorable! Motto: “A rolling Autobot gathers the most Decepticons.” Inspired by his motto & the UK comic story “Desert Island Risks!” where Ironhide destroys a facsimile of Devastator by driving through its leg I gave Tote the power of taking out legs. Also a rocket pack!
Inhumanoids Bright, Auger, Herc Armstrong and Liquidator!
Inhumanoids Earth Corps! As well as being a DELICIOUS pun these brilliant scientists & explorers are Earth’s last line of defence against the Inhumanoids (least they could do seeing as they woke them up!). Herc Armstrong, Bright, Liquidator & Auger look weird & wonderful in their environmental suits
Close enough 😁
Transformers Micromaster Off Road Patrol Mudslinger - a study-looking blue & orange bot with an interesting chest design
Monster truck mode. For trucking - monstrously!
Here’s mud in you eye, Iggy-pie
Using his wheels the grind poor Iguanus’ scales just as Budiansky intended
Transformers Mudslinger! "No road is too rough, no foe too tough.” Inspired by the Marvel comic he could use his wheels to deliver painful friction attacks and I also gave him the power to spray blinding mud and explosive mines from the hatch on the back of his vehicle mode
In a dappled glade the branches of three unusual tree trunks gently sway in the breeze… except there isn’t any breeze… the start to freak and moan…
… transforming into The Redwoods! Three gnarled, goblin-like tree creatures have come to life! The leader Redlen, hot-headed young scout Redsun and a generic dude named Redwood the Race (handy, I guess)
The Redwoods can grow from stumpy proportions to a towering tree-like stature (…ok, they’re still kinda stumpy)
The Inhumanoid Tendril attacks the Redwood forest and the Redwoods scramble to protect their home!
In the glade of the Redwoods! Creaking branches aren’t just the wind in this forest - it’s The Redwoods! These Mutores are tasked with protecting the forest & keeping the Inhumanoids imprisoned (they generate the amber that traps D’Compose). They aren’t fond of humans though will fight to protect us
The Golden Girls action figures in the Fantasticar. Sophia is “flying” in Johnny’s outside arm.
The Fantastic Four
Roadgrabber - 1988.
If you see this post a Robot
Hot Rod leads of convoy made up of Arcee, Kup, Wheelie, Rodimus Prime (somehow), Springer, Blurr and Wreck-Gar
On the the way to the Transformers The Movie premiere!
Catilla - 1988.
Transformers G1 Sky Lynx cruising in his “Dino-Bird” mode. Never been entirely sure if it is meant to be a pterosaur or an archaeopteryx thing but whatever it is Sky Lynx would like me to assure you that he is DEFINITELY *NOT* a Dinobot. He cannot emphasise this point enough
Sky Lynx lording it over the beings of the universe who are inferior to him (so all of them, basically) in his Lynx mode. The lynx doesn’t have painted eyes (at least not the original, the reissue gains them) but they often catch the light in way that makes them appear distinct which is clever
Sky Lynx in his “super robot” form. Whilst not identified as a dragon in his instructions it clearly is one, and a rather magnificent one at that
“Now remember where we parked”
"Now remember, before you do anything, think: 'Is this what Sky Lynx would do in my position?' - and you will not go far wrong"
Transformers G1 Sky Lynx! Absolutely nothing else like him & he wouldn’t have it any other way. Brilliantly inventive, wonderfully weird & incredibly fun. Motorised too!
Transformers Oiler & Slide! These rather rude-sounding bots were absolute pyromaniacs in my games, dumping oil over Decepticons then setting them on fire with Oiler’s sweet smokestack guns. Luckily they were in a unit with a fire truck who cleaned up their messes. They look fantastic in both modes
Blackstar Vizir! A bulbous-headed fat wizard dude in purple robes with a ram’s headed staff. He looks miserable (as would you with only 2 points of articulation)
Still manages to strike a lil pose despite his limited articulation (the billowing sleeves help)
Meeting with the boss
The flashing laser light feature combined with the effect of the glow-in-the-dark staff!
Blackstar Vizir! (sic) The Overlord’s Grand Vizier is a powerful wizard in his own right and one of the few recurring baddies in the show. Not exactly the most dynamic figure (2 points of articulation- his head doesn’t even turn!) but his laser light feature & glow-in-the-dark staff are very cool
Override - 1988.
Transformers Missing Link Arcee! An Arcee made to look like her original prototype. This one is in cartoon colours
Arcee hanging out with Retro G1 Hot Rod and fitting in perfectly!
Opening fire!
Should have sent a poet (to talk about car modes)
Transformers Missing Link Arcee! The cartoon coloured version of Takara’s recreation of the original Arcee prototype is *perfect* (well, nearly. I wish they’d done her lipstick like on the prototype coloured version & given her the final model gun as well as the AKOM pink one) & fits right in
Michelangelo's Pieta. A marble sculpture of Mary holding her dead son Jesus in her lap.
"The Pietà" in comics covers: a thread.
Michelangelo's Pietà is a sculpture showing a seated Mary cradling her dead son Jesus in her lap.
It has received a lot of comic cover homages over the years. Some of them dig into the themes of empathy and grief. Others just rip it off because it's cool 🧵
The 1986 cast of Transformers The Movie (plus SCF Daniel Witwicky) are joined by Missing Link Arcee
Movie stars!
Missing Link Arcee joins the cast of Transformers The Movie at long last! She fits in beautifully with the group of specially designed movie bots (plus Ultra Magnus). Now c’mon Takara, give us Missing Link Unicron! (Quintesson and Alicon too if I’m being greedy)
Transformers Missing Link Arcee sit atop Wreck-Gar looking BADASS
VROOOM!!!! (… no, wait, that’s another guy)
Made to measure!
Of course it’s natural that Arcee would look great riding a motorcycle!
I think it’s very important that everybody knows that Missing Link Arcee can ride G1 Wreck-Gar. She fits PERFECTLY! Butt fits the seat, hands go over the handlebars (they can’t push in but cover them), legs look natural. Wreck-Gar has waited 39 years for a rider in the right style - worth the wait!
A gang of Blackstar Lava Locs by Galoob! The Lava Loc can hold the glow-in-the-dark stalactite weapon in two ways - in the hole in the right hand like a bat, or gripped with the left hand using perfectly shaped grooves for the fingers
Big red rocky lava lizard!
The Laser Light feature lights up the whole head!
Not looking good for Klone
Blackstar Lava Loc! These volcanic rock lizard monster things were one of The Overlord’s few reoccurring minions so were a good choice for the line even if they did end up looking charmingly doofy as figs. They inexplicably have the same ammo belt & bomb as series 1 Kadray despite not carrying guns
Windsweeper - 1988.
A real Landcross to bear.
