What is “cringe”? Honestly it depends who you ask, but it’s used to shame people for something they like or for being themselves. Saying something is cringe is positioned as maturity, being “too cool” and therefore employing bullying tactics to make others edit or reduce themselves into the mainstream or “normal”.

But that’s not what maturity is Maturity is understanding that “normal” is relative. That sports and music are fandoms too. That bullying is a reflection of one’s own insecurities. Maturity is also understanding that constructing a persona to fit the mainstream is really just a sad waste of your very limited time on this Earth.

So be cringe. Because life is too short for us to bully each other out of our passions and authentic self-expression.

So something I’ve talked to friends about and also just therapist in general is my mindset on joy. I choose everyday to face things with joy and positivity because I found it did genuinely make me happier. Even when I’m having the worst day ever or the world is being itself, I try to find the joy
