Reading Rooms at the British Library are closed *all week* because so many of its workers refuse to work for pitiful wages in a contemptuously authoritarian and obliviously managed environment.
We need leaders who get it and are big enough to sort it out!
Itβs a mess and a disgrace.
Lift it up!!
Don't forget to submit an abstract for RSVP's Dublin conference on movements and migrations by tomorrow!

Others: How do you like Baton Rouge?
Me: It's fine, but I really, really miss walking -- I miss living in a walkable city.
Also Me: feeling ECSTATIC because I got a parking spot just a little bit closer to my office so I don't have to walk as far.

Weβre excited in Liverpool to hear that LJMU will be hosting the fab @bavs-uk.bsky.social conf in July. I canβt wait to see Victorian scholars treading the corridors of my historic c19th building. Well done to @drhorrocks.bsky.social for getting this off the ground! Now to dust of my organisers hatβ¦
Very bad: OSU unilaterally cancelled the registration of grad students attending the joint conference of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists. And OSU won't fund recruiting at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.

βUC Berkeley released the names of individuals and their βpotential connectionβ to reports of alleged antisemitism.β
Potential, alleged, reports: these words tell us that any student, at any time, can now make any claim, w/ or w/o evidence, & get a faculty member investigated, fired, &/or arrested
hey if you're going to @navsa2025.bsky.social & want to split a room with somebody to help keep costs down, the wonderful Kate Oestreich has built a crowdsourced roomshare page, which is available below and at the website: navsa.georgetown.edu

I'm so sorry -- it's devastating.
today in faculty work under authoritarianism: not one but two meetings on same day w PhD students about their departure, emigration, exile from the U.S., how to finish dissertations, how to never return, how to renounce citizenship, how to mourn student visas, how to find a life elsewhere
so thrilled to have been included in this book -- many thanks to @katiabowers.bsky.social and Margarita Vaysman for everything. My chapter is "Victorian Realisms in the Age of Global Trade."
