Some brilliant advice from Catherine Fisher at our school event last week celebrating the launch of Candlemam as a Firefly Welsh Children's Classic:
'When you finish writing for the day, leave a sentence unfinished. That away, the next day you can launch straight back into it.'

Doors open in 25 minutes.
Beyond them, more books than you could carry, though we'd like to see you try. After the necessary health and safety checks and risk assessments. Actually let's not bother.

Doors open in 1.1 hours.
Beyond them, more books than you could possibly imagine.
Unless, that is, you are capable of conceptualising the idea of a building with lots of books on shelves and tables, in which case you can disregard our initial statement.

Thank you so much to Stephanie Burgis, who popped in this week to sign her book!
Wooing the Witch Queen is our Welsh Book of the Month for February; the opening instalment in a delightful cosy romantasy trilogy, whichΒ finds a feared sorceress falling for a dark wizard

The front window of Waterstones Swansea has a display up for Wooing the Witch Queen, as Welsh Book of the Month, with a gorgeous mini bonsai tree and several stems of fake cherry blossoms lying around it.
Inside the shop is a front table with two tall stacks of copies of Wooing the Witch Queen beside a tall stack of copies of Enchanting the Fae Queen.
Street art of a Green Barred Colonel Curlew (as identified by the artist) marching along proudly with a background of green flies.
Steph sits underneath street art of a woman in traditional nineteenth-century Welsh garb.
Yesterday was day 2 of my mini-signing tour for Wooing the Witch Queen, traveling around different wonderful Welsh Waterstones while WtWQ is Welsh Book of the Month! So prepare for happy photos. :)
I started out at @swanseastones.bsky.social , a bookstore (and city!) I've loved for a long time:

Everyone, this is Neo.
Neo, this is everyone.
Neo prefers to be known as The One, and claims to be able to stop time. He also couldn't work out where the camera was so maybe take that with a pinch of salt.
His proudest achievement is that he's a Very Good Dog.

We are very excited to announce the Waterstones Welsh Book of the Year 2025!
A Room Above a Shop, Anthony Shapland's poetic debut, is an astonishing novel; a deeply moving story of two men's secret relationship in 1980s Wales.
It's a truly beautiful book.
