The Tennessee Secretary of State handed public library boards that are eager to ban LGBTQ+ books–and particularly trans books–from their collections the biggest permission slip last week.
Rutherford County is *closing* libraries to remove books.

I write a lot about U.S. history because everything happening is part of a bigger picture, and to understand our country right now, we need to understand its past.
Also because clearly not everyone remembers that we made a choice a long time ago not to have kings here.
There is a LOT of reporting on IMLS right now, but it's being done by people who know what it is. The DOE being dismantled is overshadowing this and that's being done INTENTIONALLY.
But anyway, DOGE is in the IMLS offices right now destroying it.

The library and the post office are the only two systems we have that circulate things widely and to everyone, no matter who they are or what they believe. The library is the only one that, for now, is not forced to pay for itself at point of sale. Attacks on IMLS are attacks on every one of us.

Our public library is having an adult Battle of the Books competition. I put out an all staff email about it & already have almost 2 full teams!!!! I am beyond excited.
This is exciting!!! My students ask for Manga regularly.
