I started getting more into interactions with characters to spice things up. It's not just bondage anymore, now it's bondage but ALSO there's another character helping/tormenting/teasing/playing/suffering with you, with all the interesting dynamics that might entail!

So far I'm charmed, it's giving me big Firewatch vibes (not just the art style but also the sound design) as well as reminding me of when I thought I'd be going into gamedev and I was working with some low-poly aesthetic like this for awhile before I became corporate and boring..

Downloading it, no spoilers! Probably won't stream it though, I'm not that kind of gamer and don't have that much free time. :(

It's all relative. To my eyes, as someone who put down a pencil in childhood and now doesn't have time to develop a skill from scratch in busy adulthood (I would rather focus on refining what I'm already good at), you are a professional and capable artist...

Just watch out as some of the earlier CD-Rs at least have foil backing that is starting to flake these days. Nothing is eternal. Test every few years even on DVDs!

Personally I almost always do custom comms these days although I occasionally will go for YCHes for specific interests that line up with mine. Adoptables have never crossed my mind lol.

ALL devices will eventually fail. Over time it's likely you'll eventually accumulate "bit rot" either from errors slipping past the drive's self-correction mechanisms, memory/CPU/bus errors, cosmic rays, etc. The best defense is a layered defense. Keep multiple copies. Keep hashes. Test often.

Spot checking files? Better than nothing and will detect catastrophic drive failures at least.

Fancier checks would be generate and store file hashes to verify they are bit-correct, using something like sha256.

Even better, use par2 or similar to store hashes that can repair limited data.

The best defense is a numbers game. If all you have is flash drives, by all means, use flash drives, but keep your data on multiple of them, and *check them occasionally*. What that looks like is up to your risk tolerance and budget.

To add onto this:

All devices will lose data over long periods of time when not powered on.

Hard drives are relatively robust against this. SSDs, especially more modern ones, are more fragile. Flash drives and SD cards are the worst and WILL randomly die when you need them the most. 🧵

I cannot emphasize this enough. Back up your stuff. I found childhood videos I thought I had lost forever on a old external hard drive on accident. Without that backup they'd be gone. Hard drives are more robust than ssds or especially flajs drives but anything> nothing if you test it occasionally

It is, once again, backup day. Backup your stuff! Repost to remind a friend to also back up their stuff.

So usually it works best if I can be like "Hey my budget is XYZ and I wanted to see if you'd be interesting in drawing (1-2 sentence description)" ahead of time and then drop the idea into a form, rather than spending time on an application that might not even be the right idea for the right artist.

But also since I have a day job and usually not much phone access, an artist's choice form is my preferred route. "First come first serve" locks me out of most opportunities, and I don't tend to bother with raffles because I want my idea to at least be *considered*. So I prefer artist choice forms.

As a serial commissioner, I find being able to check with the artist if they're comfortable with a general theme or idea to work out much better than sending out a form and hoping. I really like matching themes to an artist's strengths and preferences when I can!
