They do have a Mine Counter Measures equipped Independence-class LCS in the area. It's a bit hampered by a Unmanned Surface Vehicle (tows the MCM) which broke off & ran away, an ineffective sensor suite, having too deep a draft for shallow waters and a metal hull. Not traditional on minesweepers.

Second day this year (in a row!) it's been sunny enough to put laundry out on the line. Bedding today, and as ever I checked inside the duvet cover to see what it had eaten when in the washer, while imagining I am Richard Dreyfuss inspecting the stomach of a shark.

Reaching net zero by 2050 β€˜cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

Achieving the UK’s net zero target by 2050 will cost less than a single oil shock and bring health and economic benefits while insulating the country against future costs, the government’s climate advisers have forecast

I could see a way it would work, a new Lovejoy who is the son or nephew of the original, and they brought back Ian McShane as an even more disreputable elder Lovejoy, who occasionally curses like Al Swearengen and somehow seems to know a lot of hit men.

Dear everyone,

As per the post from the Bodleian librarian below, AI bots and scrapers are putting just about every website under great pressure, British History Online included.

A lot of excellent tech staff are working hard to keep everything working, but outages and siruptions are inevitable.

This is a shocking report. Staff at food banks have told GMB that some users are now so desperate, they're ripping open food parcels to eat as soon as they get them.

I'd heard of Tatort, though never seen it, it's a classic of the genre. I have never heard of Signals. I see that it and The Silent Star, along with two others are available on Blu-Ray called "STRANGE NEW WORLDS: SCIENCE FICTION AT DEFA", which is tempting.

I'm at Galactic Journey again, talking about the 1970 East German science fiction film "Signals - A Space Adventure" as well as about a little crime drama called "Tatort", which just debuted in November 1970 and will go on to become a juggernaut: galacticjourney.org/march-10-197...

*They did not do this

Charlotte is so brave here.

As I said earlier: it's very upsetting as a rape survivor to see my suffering weaponised to justify these authoritarian measures. Measures which won't do anything to end sexual violence, but risk great injustice – mostly to cut costs.

This excellent piece describes the crap that's going on within NHS England in their policy-based evidence-making, asking questions that studies were not set up to answer, then concluding that the absence of evidence means evidence of harm. The damage they're doing to people's lives is immense.

A job offering by Giant Freaking Robot to hire a freelance writer who hates Starfleet Academy to write hate articles about the show

Don't ever take this site or anything it publishes seriously. It is actively looking to hire people who hate Starfleet Academy to write about it.

As of 8 pm on 10.3.2026, this is live on LinkedIn.

Ask me again why I think the anti-SFA sentiment is manufactured.
