Overall, it was a valuable resource for introducing the reader to the various discussions around disciplinary concepts. Perhaps less useful as a straightforward “introduction to concepts” kind of text? I’m looking forward to your response to the 2nd edition!

I found the first edition so valuable for my own learning - the Smith and Sharf pieces remain gems, I think, along with Bell’s chapter. I used a few of the chapters for a theories and methods undergrad seminar that I taught.

I’m sure that might be the case for some; this cohort all went to the same seminary and uploaded their notes and resources to a chatbot to utilize it for sermon writing purposes.

I led a workshop for some pastors yesterday, and one of them shared that he was in a cohort where all the other pastors were consistently using AI to write their sermons - like complete drafts

For those working at theological institutions of higher education or seminaries - are faculty and administration having discussions about AI, specifically creating institutional guidelines or policies?

Yesterday I was fired by Columbia University after eight months as executive editor of the Columbia Journalism Review. This was the first time in a 25-year career that I've ever been subjected to discipline in a job — much less terminated from one.

I’ve been reading fiction for comfort and clarity in recent days. As a start, I’m re-reading Ursula LeGuin’s Wizard of Earthsea series. What a gift, both to my young self and to me, now.
Any books that have brought you comfort and/or clarity recently?

It’s nice having a fresh space to work with and rebuilding my list. It’s like I’m meeting old friends again, somehow. Maybe I’ll post more regularly, even.
