The AI is easily able to differentiate between weapon parts and cosplay guns. This is not like basic airport X-ray machines.
The tech can do this without infringing upon anyone’s rights.
Why not both?
It will stop many who might just experiment.
For years, we have heard that the new NY laws won’t stop every shooting, and that’s true.
But they have combined to give us the 4th lowest rate of gun violence in the US.
That means parents have not had to bury a child as a result.

A huge thank you to the 20+ volunteer leaders across the state who spent the past two months organizing this advocacy day.
Together we met with 75+ legislators and staff to push for these policies, and we are seeing strong support.
If these two initiatives pass, they will not only help save lives in New York.
Manufacturers tend to standardize technology nationally, meaning safeguards adopted here could have ripple effects across the country.

Since 2019, New York has passed 45+ gun violence prevention laws.
Today, our state has the 4th strongest gun laws in the country and the 4th lowest rate of gun violence. Sometimes correlation really does point to causation.
But there is more work to do.

3D Printer Safeguards:
A first-in-the-nation proposal would require 3D printers sold in New York to include software that prevents the printing of guns or gun parts.
The goal: stop the growing spread of untraceable “ghost guns” produced at home.

DIY Machine Guns:
This proposal would ban the sale in New York of semi-automatic pistols that can easily be converted to fully automatic using an autosear (often called a “Glock switch”).
These devices turn handguns into illegal machine guns capable of firing dozens of rounds in seconds.
