A rare photo by JoAnn Kaningok of Russian helicopter over Big Diomede island on U.S. border. Civilians were moved off in 1948. It’s now a Russian outpost with a helicopter base. JoAnn took the shot from her civilian American island of Little Diomede less than three miles away.
