I won’t be attending #LASA2025 but happy to see my book TRANSNATIONAL CINEMA SOLIDARITY at the @ucpress.bsky.social stand. Friends who’ll be there: check it out and take a photo for me!

ACLS Awards 36 Project Development Grants Project Development Grants support faculty in teaching-intensive roles pursuing research in the humanities and social sciences

Happy to have been awarded a small ACLS Project Development Grant! They're especially valuable for scholars working in teaching intensive universities. All the more grateful given the current dismantling of the federal agencies that fund research in the arts&humanities www.acls.org/news/acls-aw...

A few tips for NEH grantees:
1) if you've spent money on an awarded grant but have not yet drawn down the funds, make sure to submit the paperwork to drawn down funds ASAP.

2) the NYTimes article suggests that "DOGE" might cancel awards. If you receive an email from DOGE cancelling your NEH award,

Earlier today, lively round table to talk about methods, digital labor, supply chains, projectionists, transnationalisms, inter-Asia exchanges, nighttime, and more. Kudos to chairs Kartik Nair, Chenshu Zhou + an all-star panel #scms25

First #scms25 panel this morning: solidarity filmmaking. David Fresko on the Newsreel films about the Black Panther Party.

If the rumored gutting of the NEH is indeed happening (and I wouldn’t be surprised- it felt inevitable in the last few weeks) it will mean that an already deeply inadequate funding situation for the humanities will become reduced to almost nothing

"Compliance will not save our institutions. The UC system must continue to stand by its stated values and refuse to enable the targeting of students for imprisonment and deportation for their political views."

The screening of YOU BURN ME last week at @amcinematheque.bsky.social was truly unique. The film was mesmerizing & Piñeiro brought gadgets to talk about analog editing, Pavese, a literary text's resistance to adaptation, collaborative modes of film production & more.
