I'm sitting in a *very* international meeting of scholars; and we're having a deep discussion of "salami slicing." I had no idea this idiom translated so well and is so widely used.

It's new music day from @azpeacemakers.bsky.social. I'll have nothing but #HellToBreakfast in my ears for the next 3< weeks.
Also, my Disney+ just started suggesting #Firefly. (Admittedly, I've already watched it...repeatedly.) Can it be???
My only Christmas wish for this year. #Shiny

Right now, the world's onπ₯, and I'm grasping for hope where I can. Thus, I'm riding the high of even an implication of a new #Firefly. These teasers are enough to sate me.

Unexpected teaching moment. In class today, we had to stop to teach college students how to insert and save to a USB drive.
That was...unexpected. I didn't expect everyone to be cloud-based so quickly.
My employer forced me to update my password today, as they do every six months. And so, as I do every six months they make me do this stupid thing, I share this @wired.com article reminding them their stupid policy actually makes accounts less secure.

My Oklahoma feed today is great. It snowed in Norman--measurably--but since few students down there have snow attire, most of the photos are students walking around in blankets and snuggies.
So much of this looks amazing; but that MGM didn't trade out the lion in their title card for Battle Cat is a travesty of a wasted opportunity.

This is a more accurate metric of impending bad weather than the Waffle House Index
I received some really good rejections from @icacat.bsky.social. Like, yeah, I wish those work had been accepted; but the reviews were detailed, long, topical, and mostly all provided constructive points on how to improve the works. Thanks, good reviewers! And see y'all in #CapeTown #ICA26
My new retirement strategy may be my 2nd grade book order.

Have you ever seen such a beautiful sight
I always love Coffee Hound; but their seasonal sleeve is wonderful.

cartoon stegosaurus dinosaur saying, "You're doing a good job and your hair looks nice" from @dinosandcomics
That's it! Deadline for #ICA26 submissions are closed.
For those scholars who made the deadline, those who missed it, and those who didn't even know it was happening: You're doing a good job and your hair looks nice.
Looking forward to seeing you all at @icahdq.bsky.social in Cape Town!
@adrianmeier.bsky.social turned me on to "jingle" and "jangle" fallacies while at #MediaPsych, giving me some verbiage for things we talk about more frequently. There's a fuller look at these phenomena here:

Americans will go to any lengths to have to avoid using the metric system.
"How big is Hurricane Melissa? Well, it's approximately one central-Illinois wide."
TIL the word "tsundere," meaning someone who initially presents a harsh, cold, or hostile exterior but gradually reveals a warmer, softer side over time.
This felt like it would have been a useful word to know long ago.
Periodic reminder of the Media Bias Chart; and the importance of not using non-news sources to consider the news. Thanks, @adfontesmedia.bsky.social!

"Amazon" Prime Day isn't a holiday; but I'll go to my grave celebrating the real holiday: Prime Day.
He died and rose again--that warrants a celebration!
This seems like a big pile of bullpucky, administrative nonsense, and possibly retributional action on behalf of Cleveland State University.
3/3: ...conservative ideas aren't relevant. Unis do not need to entertain or discourse with flat-earth theories (and theorists), those that don't accept evolution, and those pedaling quack medicine. They're opinions, not evidenced discussion points; and they don't foster scholarly dialogue.
2/3: What science (and thus Universities) DO NOT rely on is opining. You're having an opinion about an area of study is great; but not important or relevant. Even MY *opinion* isn't relevant. Just what I can substantiate. This is why this premise is unfaithful. Liberal ideas aren't relevant, and...
