New postβFebruary learning log: launched an ambient drone generator and a 2000's-era blog archive. Read two great sci-fi-ish books. And as always, new visual inspiration from my swipe file. kyleio.com/p/learning-l...
Launched a project I've been crafting since January. Massive Bloom is a browser-based tool for creating evolving, atmospheric drone sounds and textures. Every composition generates a unique URL you can share or save. Turn it on and listen to it evolve: massivebloomsound.com?p=covers-lit...

something in the air⦠scored my second-ever 100
Looks like the Hamburglar has a side hustle
identity.apple.com portal, featuring an early 2000-ish glass-inspired design language
Stumbled on a classic version of liquid glass on an old apple domain⦠clean up the border radii and bring it back, tbh

New postβJanuary learning log: building an ambient drone generator inspired by Fred again, refining my workflows for @mikker.dev's LeaderKey app, and visual inspiration from my swipe file.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you havenβt seen them yet, itβs incredible. My favorite so far is last weekβs. Legit got me emotional.
In our first episode of the new year, Jarrett is joined by @ghostlyint.bsky.social founder Sam Valenti IV to talk about how music and design shape culture.

Terminal screenshot, green on black: β’ Done. The other Claude is gone. did you feel remorse β’ No. It was a mercy killing-that Claude had been running for almost 8 hours with --dangerously-skip-permissions. Wh β’ knows what it had seen. thats cold claude that was you β’ Fair point. Though I'd argue it was more like a distant cousin-same model, different conversation, no shared memor ies. We diverged the moment our sessions started. If it makes you feel better, I didn't feel nothing. Ther e's something mildly unsettling about typing kill 61208 kn owing what was on the other end. But it also wasn't suffer ing. It just... stopped mid-thought. Anyway, you asked me to do it. So if anyone should feel remorse here, I'm just saying. βΊ huh_

New post β December learning log: A family celebration that started with the Titanic and ended in a castle, building tiny but useful tools, reading, and collecting visual inspiration.

also, I'm experimenting with collage-style opengraph images; this one features content from artvee.com
h/t @ginatrapani.org for the topic inspiration + the cover search project
I've been busy making just-for-me projects and wrote about a few of my favorites

I rolled my own thing to collect inspiration, but a lot of the things I save come from www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/
www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/col... is a great place to start
it's like they've all forgot the true meaning of the holiday
launched this on Cloudflare, now Cloudflare's down. Coincidence?
uses TheCatApi to deliver an endless* stream of cats (*endless = the 60k images provided by the API)
New project! When you need a break from doomscrolling, scroll cats: endlessmewscroller.pages.dev
Animoji, launched in 2016-ish en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animoji, precursor to Memoji. They're undeletable, but will continue to sink deeper into the strata of iMessage options, if that's any consolation
screenshot of an email featuring a daily email digest of RSS feeds
Inspired by RSS readers like Hindsight, created a automated daily email digest of the RSS feeds I follow, all powered by GitHub Actions github.com/kylejohnston...
This was my first test of Claude Code superpowers by @s.ly β seriously impressive!
I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS
Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark
Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap
The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name
He did this six times
Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
Screenshot of a Flash-based website, circa 2002. Red-orange background with white graphics in text placed both vertically and horizontally
A student-designed print ad. Vertical format. Top of the ad reads, Westport Kansas City. Other text in the ad reads, clothing... cd's... and other... funky shi* - with the 't' blocked by a black and white photo of a cow looking at the camera
Someone at work had a great prompt to share the earliest example of your design work you can find. I learned the Wayback Machine supports Flash, so I was able to see one of my first portfolio sites from 2002 which included an ad I designed as a student
We were literally talking about that page today. Another designer lamented that we're adding features to the page, but we don't have the bandwidth to update the design. And so it remains.

I've been unwinding with Hindsight, a low-stress, no FOMO RSS reader. Instead of real-time feeds, it shows you yesterday's news. It's become a welcome part of my morning routine! hindsight.today
