Maybe the mainstream right had been hiding its true agenda. Maybe there never was much difference. Maybe it's more honest to have things out in the open.

So perhaps less fear, because people can see better now.

UK economy failed to grow in January ahead of Iran war Analysts had been expecting 0.2% growth for the UK economy at the beginning of the year.

UK economy failed to grow in January ahead of Iran war.

Neoliberalism has failed.

Need new economic strategy. Redistribute income/wealth. Too many struggling.

Profiteering pushing people into poverty. Nationalise essentials.

Govt to invest directly in infrastructure, new industries.

Yes, we need to reframe billionaires as sick individuals with an insatiable appetite for money-people who require intervention rather than admiration.

She never said Orwell said it. She said it's often attributed to him. She's right.

Except, didn't Henry Root enclose a ten shilling note, or something. Indicates a generosity of spirit lacking over there.

Yeah, but Labour's Jon Ashworth put his defeat in Leicester South down to bullying and intimidation.

Is there much difference?

πŸŽ₯ BIG MONEY IS CORRUPTING OUR POLITICS πŸŽ₯

UK politics has a big money problem πŸ’·

The super-rich use money to buy honours, influence and access to power. It erodes trust in our politics and undermines our democracy.

The UK needs a cap on donations to end big money in our politics.

PL looks amazing. Love the line numbers. So considerate.

Is that a single volume? Looks like it would make a lot of pages.

That's clever.

But why are you doing your best to reduce the chance of a prosecution?

When I was starting out as a pedant (aka copyeditor and proofreader) much was made of the evils of "try and". It's gotta be "try to" or you'll go to publishing hell.

Wondering if you were similarly afflicted.

I'm now trying to relax. "Try and" is fine. Not easy.

(So who wrote the hard book?)

But some of us don't want anything to do with it.

Did you reproduce an entire poem there? Doesn't seem fair.

Always interested in your explanations. But could you deliver them with a lighter touch? Perhaps with a recognition that these are complicated matters for many of us. Thank you.

I know I'm old-school, but I did like it when the media's job was to report events, happenings, actions. Used to call it news. Didn't report feelings, moods, opinions.

When critics say it's got up by the media, they mean the media are reflecting moods, not actions. The media seem to agree.

I know it’s a very busy day but this story *really* matters

Josh Simons says he hired β€˜a PR company’ to investigate a β€˜suspected illegal hack’

But if you’re worried about a hack, why pay Β£30k to a PR firm?

A lot about this story isn’t right. And a cabinet office minister is at the centre of it

Funny to think that if Pound hadn't stuck his oar in we might all have rushed off to get a copy of OMF rather than the Golden Bough and Jessie L Weston. And been much better off for it.

What a book, indeed. Its reputation doesn't seem to match it. Perhaps its problem is that it's too good. Just so much in it.

Misconduct in public office | Institute for Government What happens if someone holding public office is alleged to have abused their power?

Peter Mandelson is being investigated for potential β€œmisconduct in public office” over emails he sent as a minister to Jeffrey Epstein.

Our explainer sets out what this means in UK law and why few politicians have been prosecuted over it.

"My particular expertise is that I straddle the worlds of business and government"

We noticed that. But there are less flattering words than straddle.

This is a great thread. So much in it.

Part of me hopes the Met delay charges so sub judice doesn't end this excellent reporting.
