This new Harry Enfield character is really shit!
This new Harry Enfield character is really shit!
Another thing to add to the "every leader who shied away from this for political reasons looks quite silly now" pile.
I'll bet the air quality data is stunningly good too...
“$100 a barrel for first time since X” discussions rarely adjust for inflation
Which is odd
Site here lets you do so, with mildly soothing results www.macrotrends.net/1369/crude-o...
The flip side of this might be that drivers start thinking it's their road any time there isn't a side road zebra. I'm not at all sure about them!
Bus route: this is what ANPR is for!
Badgers on tenners and otters on fifties,
Ferrets on fivers, yeah that'd be nifty,
Weasels on twenties, much better than kings,
Mustelids are just my favourite things
Young people across the country: "What's a banknote?"
How about we replace the King with a badger too?
Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.
Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

"Achieving the UK’s net zero target by 2050 will cost less than a single oil shock and bring health and economic benefits while insulating the country against future costs, the government’s climate advisers have forecast."

lede to an irish times article about Harry and Meghan by Patrick Freyne.
A reminder that in 2021, @patrickfreyne.bsky.social wrote the best explanatory lede regarding colonialism and monarchy that I have ever seen. www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-r...
Particularly on non-motorway roads where there is more speeding up and slowing down. We should reduce the non-motorway speed limit to 50mph.
Maybe we'll get another 14 years of this for parity with petrol prices.
Nice to know that the most modern and comfortable buses are reserved for the people who are destroying the planet by flying.
Sun headline about £500k compensation for migrants, discussing human rights, and public outcry over payouts.
Did you see this headline?
Did you feel the requisite anger and rage at asylum seekers that The Sun was asking of you?
Did you maybe blame Starmer because.... um... it was probably his fault🤷♀️
Would you like to know the reality behind the headline?
Course you would!😜
Let's take a look

Maybe someone could remind Donald Trump how long it took the US to make the decision to help us fight the Nazis after Churchill first asked!!

I imagine many LibDem activists and councillors are livid. There are some wards in Oxford where the Greens could put this on their leaflets, it's so bad.
When war pushes up oil prices, freezing fuel duty entrenches dependence, and asks non-drivers to unfairly subsidise drivers.
The Dutch used the 70s oil shocks to cut car-dependent short trips and build a more resilient, locally focused transport system.
We should learn that lesson.
Lib Dem campaign for fossil fuels
This is trash. I respect our Oxfordshire Lib Dems as they are delivering progressive transport policy which favours walking, cycling and buses (see congestion charge).
But this national LD nonsense? No. Public Transport costs have risen far faster than driving, we need to rebalance.
The stupidest thing about this situation is that Rachel Reeves will do what they asked. The LDs just wanted to get in early so they could say it was their idea.
Fuel Duty has been frozen, and therefore cut, for 15 years in the U.K, turbocharging transport emissions and starving local councils of grant funding to repair our crumbling roads.
It’s been a disaster and it’s beyond embarrassing that any mainstream party would campaign to maintain the freeze.
1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health
Are the Liberal Democrats on a recruitment drive today? For the Green Party?
Clear cynical populism from the LibDems here. Driving has been disproportionately subsidised for far too long already!
Absolutely not! What a terrible, terrible, polluting campaign from @libdems.org.uk
My response in 2024 when Labour kept the fuel duty freeze ⬇️
Similar image, complete opposite message.
I support Labour's policy change (it should go further)

This will also result in effective privatisation of the parking spaces outside people's houses. Got to have that exact space, it's where the cable goes.
Too plausible :-(
