I imagine many LibDem activists and councillors are livid. There are some wards in Oxford where the Greens could put this on their leaflets, it's so bad.
When war pushes up oil prices, freezing fuel duty entrenches dependence, and asks non-drivers to unfairly subsidise drivers.
The Dutch used the 70s oil shocks to cut car-dependent short trips and build a more resilient, locally focused transport system.
We should learn that lesson.

This is trash. I respect our Oxfordshire Lib Dems as they are delivering progressive transport policy which favours walking, cycling and buses (see congestion charge).
But this national LD nonsense? No. Public Transport costs have risen far faster than driving, we need to rebalance.
The stupidest thing about this situation is that Rachel Reeves will do what they asked. The LDs just wanted to get in early so they could say it was their idea.
Fuel Duty has been frozen, and therefore cut, for 15 years in the U.K, turbocharging transport emissions and starving local councils of grant funding to repair our crumbling roads.
It’s been a disaster and it’s beyond embarrassing that any mainstream party would campaign to maintain the freeze.
