My wishes for Europe.
What are you doing Dec. 9th? I am organising a conf. with speakers @mliebreich.bsky.social, @kingsmillbond.bsky.social, @laurencetubiana.bsky.social,
@solarwalburga.bsky.social,
@paulkenny.bsky.social, Head of EU utilities, MEPs, Euro Commission officials... Everyone in EU energy will be there.
The heat was on at the EU summit yesterday!
For the first time, the Council clearly put electrification at the heart of our energy system, calling for βambitious electrification using all net-zero and low-carbon solutions.β

We donβt want pedantryπ, but a reasonable level of understanding. Itβs not rocket science but apparently the mistake made by the editorial team twice on two articles two days in a row. Apparently.
Strikes me as highly unlikely to be an accident. Gross negligence or wilful misinformation (aka disinformation). The Irish sun, @theirishtimestoday.bsky.social @irishexaminer.bsky.social all leading with an incorrect headline
Heat pumps have had high profile disinformation campaigns in the past. In the UK that @desmog.com reported on www.desmog.com/2022/02/10/g...
And other countries have it too. For three media outlets in Ireland to parallel misinform, in the same way and not online with the original press release β¦
This morning I read the article from @irishtimes.com and rang & wrote to them to ask for a correction. They corrected the headline, and the article author @conorpope.bsky.social wrote back to confirm that it had changed. I opened up the app this evening and itβs wrong again.
Our new analysis: Europe aims to get off gas - so why are governments taxing it way less than electricity?
Tax is a key tool governments can use to boost heat pumps and Europe's sovereignty & energy independence!
We discuss this + more at this week's #HPForum.

Heat pumps can deliver on energy security, net zero industry leadership, cleaner air, decarbonisation, our director @paulkenny.bsky.social tells Heat Pump Forum 2025.
How do we get there?
- Ensure the business case is right
- Improve the customer journey
- Tell the right story

Youβd also have to factor in the Irish renewable generators being curtailed to facilitate interconnection flows, the impact of minimum generation holding off renewables also. (Ie if an import disappears and you use more Irish generators, any curtailed renewables would rise a little). Very complex
This week I participated in a workshop and was struck by the difference between younger male collegues who were speaking up like they were used to being listened to, and younger female collegues who were timid and not used to being listened to. Damn, are we still hereβ¦
UK & EU are under attack by the same foes. We must maximise strength by rejoining urgently.
Move by SEAI will open electric heat pump grant support to more households but @paulkenny.bsky.social of @helloheatpumps.bsky.social says more needs to be done to accelerate the switch from oil and gas home heating

Itβs up on 50mm in North Tipperary and falling steadily. Kids have their ready for the morning. #sneachta
Changed the cables on my 20YO bike, game changer on the brakes.
Walked a lot around Sligo over the last few days, the air is so much cleaner than a few years ago. One anti-social house burning smoky coal. But otherwise a big improvement.
All markets, all homes and all grids will work this way in the future, many already do. If we do it quickly, we gain competitiveness, security and hit climate targets. If we do it slowly, we lose the first mover advantage, create extra warming and provide more funding to dictators.
And an Irish project flounders as its owners seem great a making debt but not profits.
The LNG pause is real. It's economic.

Heat pumps are magic and electrified homes are healthy. Let's get fossil fuels out of our homes and away from our loved ones. They must be affordable and accessible for ALL. Kudos to @rewiringamerica.bsky.social for this report.
