Tired of reading book proposals (and books) that claim an interpretation is βnewβ when it isnβt. How about reading widely first to see where that interpretation fits in the larger field? This used to be a given but the rush to publish has hurt us all.

The admissions numbers shall primarily be allocated among Afrikaners from South Africa pursuant to Executive Order 14204, and other victims of illegal or unjust discrimination in their respective homelands. Refugee admissions under this determination, which may reach but not exceed the numerical limit described herein, are in all respects subject to the requirements of other Presidential policies and actions, whether issued prior or subsequent to this determination. Those Presidential policies and actions include, but are not limited to: Executive Order 14161, which mandates that refugees receive the most stringent identification verification of any class of alien seeking admission or entry to the United States; Executive Order 14163, which suspends the entry into the United States of refugees other than when the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security jointly determine that an admission is in the national interest and does not threaten the security or welfare of the United States; Executive Order 14204, which provides for refugee resettlement of Afrikaners from South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination; and β¦
NEW: Trump has announced that the US will admit the lowest level of refugees ever at 7,500 in FY 2026. The US will only be admitting as refugees White people from South Africa and "victims of illegal or unjust discrimination," which leaked memos suggest means far-right Europeans.
I wish half the attention that's being absorbed by the Nazi-tattoo guy and rape apologist in ME would be expended on the AK race instead.
Peltola, if she decides to run, has a real chance of taking a senate seat from Dan "Who?" Sullivan, a B-list Trump toady w/ all the charisma of a wet noodle.

Bravo to this wonderful woman who is stepping up and using her voice. Letβs all be brave like her, shall we?
As I say here, βThis document was written for the American people, paid for by the taxpayers, and it contains vital information we need to keep ourselves safe in a changing climate, as the disasters that continue to mount demonstrate so tragically and clearly.β

The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration has been important to my scholarship as a historian of immigration. This administration is closing it down, the latest attempt to censor information that challenges the administrationβs lies.
Itβs refreshing to see that even the pope has that one crazy relative in Florida. π
A few years ago, I drew 3 maps for a book on climate refugees & US policy for @ithacamcg.bsky.social, including a cool map of Montserrat. I wrote about it over on my patreon page.
It's free, so check it out! And sign up for a free membership while you're there!

Since WaPo and NYT are pissing me off, I'm going to give this new publication a try for a few months [https://contrarian.substack.com/?r=2xw1g&utm_campaign=subscribe-page-share-screen&utm_medium=web](contrarian.substack.com?r=2xw1g&utm_...)
"When Mexico sends its people, they're sending their best. They're sending firefighters to help solve American problems. They're bringing fire fighting uniforms. They're bringing fire fighting equipment. They're bringing kittens down from trees. And all, I assume, are good people."
Syllabus? Do I have to?
β¦But they donβt read itβ¦
Stay strong.
Bottom line: This analysis confirms for me that Bluesky is a more reliable platform for seeing the content you want, especially on climate topics. Its lack of algorithm means that engagement here depends on YOU!
Whatβs it been like for you on these platforms? Does β¬οΈ track with your experience?
