Higher education in the U.S. is the world leader, with many strengths. But also major problems, chief among them the price tag. It’s important to get the word out that banning foreign students (and almost all of Trump’s actions) will cause prices to rise. Higher parent bills and more student debt.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Fake Jobs and Fake Facts
By Misrepresenting Constitutional Law, Muskawamy Prove Brandolini's Law
New, from me: Elon Musk, a man who runs an imaginary government department, accused a real government employee of having a fake job.
He is wrong about this, and other claims about what he can do to eliminate regulations and cut spending. 🧵

👇🎯 No one ever accuses conservatives of “lacking empathy” or tells them they need to “reach out” to urban liberals, or uses whatever the right-wing equivalent of “the faculty lounge” epithet is, etc. Only Democrats & liberals have agency & are held to these standards.

low key the most egregious condescension is this idea that conservatives do not have agency and are not making choices but are purely reactive and have no mind of their own

This amazing summary by @niedermeyer.io is really worth your time.
Similarity with movie 'The Apprentice': Takes a deranged and noxious current figure and gives some backstory on how the person turned out that way. In both stories, the traits of the father play a major role.

Who Are These Federal Workers Trump Wants to Fire?
The civilian workforce has barely grown in recent decades, is scattered across the country and accounts for a small fraction of US spending.
Reality for Musk/DOGE: “While federal spending has grown sharply and regulation is arguably in need of correction, there is no such long-run trend in federal employment, and firing lots of federal workers would not in itself result in much savings or deregulation.”

This is a terrific, fact-based piece with nice graphs providing basic details about the federal workforce.

Opinion | Russell Vought violated the law for Trump before. He'll do it again.
The once and reportedly future head of the Office of Management and Budget is poised to choke off millions of dollars in appointed funds.
New from me: I wrote about the reports that Russ Vought is going back to OMB and how inevitable it is he would violate the law to implement the ridiculous cuts that DOGE recommends

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s
