Dipol-dipol tracks? It does not really operate on longer distances ;)
@michal-g
I explore cyanobacterial photosynthesis with protein engineering, biochemistry & spectroscopy. I am exCSO at Kelp Blue unlocking the biotech potential of seaweed, and before, I built biophysics in S.Africa | MSc Biotech | PhD Biol | MSCA fellow | he/him

Great opportunity to get into the world of photosynthesis research!
Guess where this one was taken? I have hidden some locations not to give it away too easily.
Itβs the first time Iβve attended a conference where bags of human urine and feces so often take center stage. Quite a departure from the photosynthesis we discussed on day one. If we want to conquer space and Mars these are the challenges, but also the opportunities and solutions.

The habitat for the next manned Moon mission looks, to me, surprisingly similar to the wagons that pioneers and colonizers once used in places like America and South Africa. At first glance, not much seems to have changed since the 19th century β but the technology behind it today is truly exciting!
Good to be in beautiful Granada, Spain, for the 2025 MELiSSA Conference. Iβll be speaking about how photosynthesis research can help us get more out of each solar photon. Looking forward to getting to know this community!
Congratulations @nikinikki87.bsky.social!
Pied kingfisher to me. Nice one
Very happy to contribute to a review of the basic principles & measurement of the light reactions of photosynthesis with a focus on greenhouse/crop studies - it might be useful for newcomers to the field. Not open access, sorry ($$) - so please DM requests for the PDF.
Great! I have just sent you an email.
Hi @kheyduk.bsky.social, we have a large collection of (unpublished) fluorometric data for Welwitschia from the Namib desert from a few years ago. It would be great to do something together! Good luck in the desert and have fun π€©
How fantastic! One other interesting plant you can find in the Namibian deserts is !Nara.
What a beautiful sighting! Where is it? Namibia or Angola?
A good summary of the state of the art!
Thanks for having me!
Could I be added too please?
It's a good week for rubisco enthusiasts - very cool preprint from Ron Milo lab www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... impressive screening of +250 genes spanning available diversity of rubisco, this then used to predict activities of 68,000 known sequences revealing role of phylogeny and habitat
Maybe we could add it later on :D
Exciting! Is the cell going to be photosynthetic?
Thanks for having me! It was a lot of fun and I hope it was useful for the audience. It was great to have a chance to talk with people at different stages of their careers in research, either in or outside the academic setting.
Beautiful and somehow similar to the installation at the Light Festival in Amsterdam.
Could you add me here too please?
May I please be added?
Amazing! The selection of regions where it appears is a bit random but it is still very cool! Thanks for sharing πΏπ
Best possible answer :D
What about young giant kelpβs olive colour?
Thanks for involving me @nikinikki87.bsky.social. It was quite a ride and a lot of fun! π€©
I took my Bluesky cover photo from a plane over #LΓΌderitz, #Namibia β a place where the desert meats the ocean. Believe me or not, there is ~30 ha of forest in that picture! The βtreesβ in that forest grow up to a 0.5 m a day and do not need fresh water or agricultural land for that! #kelp #seaweed
Also macroalgae?
