Just back from a short, emotional and joy filled visit to the Falkland Islands. The welcome was overwhelming and the kindness and generosity of the islanders towards veterans is humbling.

Medical Polyfilla. Filling gaps in actual knowledge by covering it with a nice certificate. A ‘professional’ opinion was that my young daughter’s description of her symptoms were not possible. Five years and a lot of arguments later a surgeon believed her and sorted the problem.

The road is full of pheasants adopting the old movie tactic of trying to avoid being hit by a car by running down the middle of the road and making no attempt to get out of the way. Pheasants are famously not very bright.

By the time I left, staff working at 120% capacity was the norm, 150% and above not unusual. Meeting the needs of offenders was secondary to box ticking to hit targets. Staff were working incredibly hard, knowing they’ll be the scapegoats when things inevitably go wrong.
