We have the best students @uwsjmc.bsky.social. 2 moderated a panel on affordable housing with finesse; the other 2 took pictures and wrote a story to come out in Madison Commons soon. Keep an eye out for Jonas Tijerino, Lily Spanbauer, Maeghan Chase, and Noah Maze! They are already soaring!
We r $5 away from $3000 for our 24h fundraiser for Madison Commons -a local news innovation, incubator site I run out of @uwsjmc.bsky.social at @uwmadison.bsky.social. As I do my syllabi for my classes, I’m feeling grateful for all the journalists and journalism scholars being willing to zoom in to talk to my students. Remember that this year as we go into darkness, we can be there for each other.
Launching the third phase of a 3-year study using applied research with Solutions Journalism Network, Hearken, Trusting News. I have a fantastic team of coders for the thousands of election stories we are about to analyze. Wish us speedy reading!!

My amazing colleagues have yet another insightful report out about our divides. Their Knight Center is working to reduce our polarized information world. @cccr.bsky.social
RFK will help kill people. Trump did enough of that the first time around.

When men rage, they blow and shoot things up and start wars.
When women rage, we create.
We knit, do embroidery and cross stitch. We create new things ... while we figure out how to fix the broken things.
Behold rage project #1
Fraudster. For life.
I feel like this cat is daring me to find joy.

Prepping to write a 2025 journalism prediction for Nieman Reports but my mind is only going to dark places for this profession I love. Typically I am all upbeat and optimistic for these. Please send photos of puppies and rainbows and sunshine so I can trick my mind to find my mojo again. Sigh.
I feel like we need more of this.
I've officially switched to DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. It's not a privacy thing, though that's probably an added bonus. It's just a better search engine. That wasn't true when I tried five years ago, but it has gotten better and Google has gotten much worse in the intervening years
Friends, I am here for all the Thanksgiving food posts. Please indulge. Especially pies.
Friends who write reports for centers, etc.: I am begging you to please put all the citation information for your report right on the executive summary or home page for the report, and please especially include the date. But a full citation would be perfect. Thanks!
If u have room to add me, that’d b awesome. Thanks for doing these! Super helpful
"If a woman doesn't look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect your genitals to use a bathroom? It's disgusting.
Everyone should reject it completely... they're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kind, and everyone should reject it. It's gross." - AOC
Jarvis: His generals called him fascist. Joe Scarborough called him fascist, and now the fascist is in charge and it is journalism's job to cover it that way, not to back off and say okay, well that's it, we lost. Let the fascism happen. No

Somewhere on here I saw that someone was recommending an academic litigation insurance company. Anyone have one they like?
