On Friday 30 January, French authorities forcibly removed 600-700 people, including families and unaccompanied minors, from the largest living site in Calais.

3/3 We are grateful to see political leaders come and witness the impact of oppressive policies for people on the move at the UK-France border. Long-term political change from our governments is essential.
2/3 Polanski's visit to Calais came at the close of a year marked by continued violence towards people on the move. We’ve witnessed near-daily police evictions, acts of sabotage against CFC’s water points and abuse of people on the move in Calais by far-right aggressors.
🧵 1/3 In December, we welcomed @zackpolanski.bsky.social, recently elected leader of the UK Green Party, as part of a visit organised by @calaisappeal.bsky.social. Polanski came on water distribution with CFC, where he witnessed the unlivable conditions created by the UK and French governments.

Boulders have been used extensively in the city centre to prevent people on the move accessing spaces to sleep. They have also been installed in various locations, including this living site, to render inaccessible spaces used by many associations for distributions.
The installation of boulders is a hostile tactic employed aggressively by the Calais town hall as part of their zero point of fixation policy.
The team returned a few hours later to find access to CFC’s water tank completely blocked off. What’s more, the IBC was found empty with part of the tap broken off and missing.
🚨 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 🚨
On Sunday CFC’s water team passed one of the living sites and witnessed a crane truck, accompanied by a police car, installing boulders. This newest installation follows the eviction of a Roma travelling community from this area over the weekend.
After a 7 month pause, the Home Office has announced yesterday that they will resume decision-making for people from Syria with protection claims.
