i like at the end of sa2 when tails kinda fails to take in the scope of eggmans feelings and he kinda just defaults to childish optimism & thats fine bc thats all they needed to hear. eggman just kind of backs off and accepts that naive optimism as an answer for now and i think thats really sweet

something i wish was seen more when talking about tails and eggman as rivals is their difference in maturity. people often reduce tails as a foil to eggman as just "technology can be used for good, too" when its much more about the worldview behind the technology. tails's naivety is his strength....
