Whatever the merits of the reforms to inheritance tax, the government could have avoided this row with farmers (over a policy that will raise ยฃ560m) by following the IPPR and SMFโs calls to raise online gambling duty (doubling it would have raised ยฃ900m). Why they didnโt do so raises some questions!
Safer gambling week is upon us. Prepare for an onslaught of gambling adverts disguised as promoting 'safer gambling tools', designed to make people believe that if they are addicted to gambling its all their own fault for not using the tools correctly.

No-one needs to be inundated with gambling ads telling us to gamble more followed by gambling companies blaming their victims for not gambling responsibly.
