I've known @SadiqKhan for over 30 yrs. He's a feminist, a socialist & an LGBTQ+ ally. I'm so proud he's our London mayor.
For the record, he's as interested in introducing Sharia Law to London as I am - and that's 0%.
Those who suggest otherwise are deluded, or have a v sinister agenda.

"I tell you what, if Trump pulls this off we should all be wearing MAGA hats."

Labour MP @emilythornberry.bsky.social says the UK and her allies should draft a two-state solution and use Trump’s might to pressure Israel.

The government’s decision to recognise a Palestinian state alongside France in September is a historic moment and great news.

While we all wish that Israel would agree to end the hunger and suffering in Gaza, commit to a long-term sustainable peace including two states, and rule out annexation of the West Bank, there seems little possibility that the far-right Netanyahu government will agree to those terms. The UK will recognise Palestine in September.

I have been calling on the government to take this step for months. In our major report published last week, my committee recommended that the UK and France - as co-signatories of the Sykes-Picot Agreement which carved up the Middle East - must recognise the state of Palestine while there is still a state to recognise. We must not underestimate the significance of this move.

Recognition is not an end by itself: it must be the first step to a long-term, two-state solution. First, UN-administered aid must flow in straightaway. Next, the government must urgently kickstart the political process. The Prime Minister, alongside our allies in Europe and the Gulf and Arab states, should present President Trump with a plan. Only he can sway Prime Minister Netanyahu.

It is our responsibility to take a leadership role in bringing this conflict to an end. This move shows the UK is willing to be part of that effort.

PM tells @emilythornberry.bsky.social at Liaison C'tee that the EU Summit is yearly "not just to monitor progress but to go further" each year. Hints that medicines and artists' touring visas are very much on the menu of "common sense changes... that have very little to do with the vote in 2016".~AA

We are grateful to Scottish Labour MSPs for adding their names in support of our statement on recognition.

Alongside yesterday’s statement from Anas Sarwar, it sends a clear message that all Scottish Labour MSPs support recognition of the State of Palestine.

Today I was deeply honoured to receive a damehood from His Majesty The King.

I wore a brooch in my hat belonging to my nan, who was a bright working class woman who had to stop working once she was married. If only she could see her granddaughter now.

I and others have been calling for sanctions on these extremist Israeli ministers for the better part of a year. The government is finally doing the right thing.

This must be a precursor to recognising a Palestinian state next week - not an alternative to it.

With so much happening globally, it's easy to overlook our oceans - but the continued abuse of our oceans is simply unsustainable.

The UK led efforts to get 115 countries to sign the High Seas Treaty. So why haven’t we ratified it?

I spoke of what needed in urgent short term, medium & long term. Certainly didnt imply in any way that pple should starve until June, nor that recognition was solution in itself!
It's impt to get beyond your anger and listen to what those who are struggling to find a way through are actually saying.
