Out now in Movement Ecology: We used multi-sensor geolocators to track myrtle warblers breeding in Alaska and found that they migrated much farther than expected to the Gulf Coastβ€”rather than to the closer Pacific Coast non-breeding area πŸͺΆπŸ§΅ link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Steep and loose surface on this ridge in the southern Spring Mountains.

it is steep and loose underfoot, and incredibly difficult to survey in the time allotted! Beautiful and fascinating to look at all the folds and layers in the rock formations...

Best wishes to all in 2026!

Anyone else boggling that it's 2026 already?

Beautiful views of the Spring Mtns near Mt Potosi (near Vegas) for #MountainMonday, from May 2024. You don't get a good sense of the terrain from this photo, though. One of our few locations where we find Rufous-crowned Sparrows,

Anyway, thanks for the info & adding to an ever-increasing reading/research list!

Actually, a followup - does it seem (anecdotally or otherwise) like the Prodoxus moths respond to similar conditions as the Tegeticula? Or not really / who knows?

Ok, I'll stop badgering you now - thanks again!

But it was really encouraging seeing all those "snowflakes" in the headlights, & a nice change from driving to survey locations, noting 0 or 2 inverts over many miles of road. (After 2021-2, even the presence of mosquitoes now gets a :) on datasheets, so you can imagine...)

Interesting! Yes, they were white. Sadly, it was crazy late, so no pics to confirm ID -regretted it, since not present at any of the other JT sites visited.

That "bogus yucca moth" is an actual common name for a genus, tho, is fantastic. The danger & the quirky joy of common names in one example!

thru a snowstorm, a wall of white flakes drifting in my headlights! .. I say "wall", but (I just measured) it was about a mile - varying density, but over any part of it, more moths than I'd ever seen before. (Also, the mile was where I stopped, not necessarily the moths.) So neat!

Yeah, obviously biased re birds! But especially the past few years, really keying in on Mojave inverts & your post was perfect timing. I'd recently been writing about surveying this past spring in the WeeThump JT Wilderness - I've NEVER seen so many (what I believe were) Yucca moths.. like driving
