139. Thrice - Palms
One of my least favourite/least listened to of theirs, but thatβs like saying βmy least favourite hoppy IPAβ you know? Itβs still very much up my street, just not all the way. As it were.
Donβt put the sexy Disney fox Robin Hood though, nobody would ever spend them and the economy would collapse.
@burnedaswitches.bsky.social love the single man, looking forward to hearing the album. Hope you make it to Bristol for a show sometime :)

A picture of a bottle of wine sitting on a kitchen counter. The wine is called DRACULA wine and the label has a picture of fuckin Dracula doing the cape over the lower face move. The bottle of wine has a gorgeous little red satin lined Dracula cape hanging around its neck. Judge not lest ye be judged
I have not always been the best with money but relax, this bottle of wine wearing a cape cost UNDER $18
βSuper Mario was based on an Italian man I saw die in an accident on a construction site. I thought to myself, βWhat if that man had been killed by a gorilla, rather than negligence?β - Shigeru Miyamoto
Happy Mario day!
Come say hi during your lunch break if youβre nearby. Or beep your car horn / ding your bell if youβre passing through.
Image 2: some kind words of solidarity from @carladenyer.bsky.social of @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social (5/5)
UoB offers a staggering number of fixed-term-only roles (i.e. not permanent). These fragile job circumstances allow the UoB to make redundancies without ever having to spend any of that pesky money or time on people, many of whom have literally spent years in salary precarity. (4/5)
Many colleagues struggle to pay mortgages and rents and eventually have to leave jobs they love and are very good at.
Many more colleagues are locked into fixed-term contracts, which UoB will extend and extend and extend until, one day, they donβt. (3/5)
UoB staff havenβt had a pay increase that matches inflation since 2009. So every year, food and bills go up but our wages practically stagnate, meaning that we receive an effective pay CUT. (2/5)
Unison strike today in Bristol
UoB staff on strike round 2: 10th and 11th March 2026
Quote from Carla Denyer: "Solidarity with Unison workers at the University of Bristol, who are striking against a 3.4% real terms pay cut. Since 2009, higher education pay has lost around 28% of its value. Meanwhile, low-paid workers have borne the brunt of the crisis in higher education funding. This strike is important for Bristol. University of Bristol workers make up a significant proportion of the cityβs workforce β at 4.8%. I also have a personal connection to this issue β many of my friends either currently work in universities, or have left, due to unmanageable working conditions. Workloads canβt keep increasing while wages are dropping. Iβm proud to have supported striking University of Bristol workers since I was a local councillor, and to have joined them on picket lines across the years. I echo their demands: it's time for University workers to be paid fairly."
Round 2 of the University of Bristol @unison.org.uk staff strike. Weβll be at the pickets on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th March.
Iβll be there for two reasons: Pay and Redundancies. (1/5)
Oh shit, good luck pal
137. Happy Accidents - You Might Be Right
Bangers.
@joshgondelman.bsky.social a bit out of the blue, but from various posts of yours about music over the years I reckon you'd have a great time with this:

136. @merex.bsky.social - Giant Elk
This came out in October 2023? No way. Love this record but haven't listened in a little while.
Infinity Worm sounds like it could be the theme tune to a 90s sitcom (complementary).
Still as blown away by the lyrics of Canada Water as I was when I first saw Myles play it...must've been 10 years ago or something?

This is AWFUL. If you have any spare Β£, this poor lass is going through a dreadful time.
135. @merex.bsky.social - Smilodon
Getting hyped to see them on Wednesday.
Mine was doing that and it turned out some update had set Copilot off running in the background, using up loads of CPU/Memory and setting the fan going like it was trying to take off π
134. David Bowie - Hunky Dory
So fucking good. I'm enjoying how much looser the musicianship is on the older records. There's a long chunk of his albums where he's obviously hired the best of the best and it can sometimes sound a bit sterile, whereas this sounds like A Band.
Nobody here asking to see your 58008? We used to be a real internet.
