“Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”
@d9neighbors
We champion the creation of more housing in Bernal Heights, the Mission, the Portola, and St. Mary’s Park—the neighborhoods we call home. Find out how you can join us: https://www.d9neighbors.com/
“Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”
If you agree, please RSVP to join us for public comment at the Board of Supervisors on February 3: actionnetwork.org/events/suppo...
Our position is that not only should the Board of Supervisors reject the frivolous appeal of 3333 Mission, they should INSIST on reinstating the project's original plan for 120 units. The developers have already compromised with bad-faith neighbors and it didn't work. Let's get the units we need!
Thanks to @thefrisc.bsky.social for featuring us in today's article on "How To Delay Affordable Senior Housing in SF, Despite a Law That Blocks Appeals" thefrisc.com/how-to-delay...
Fantastic choice by Mayor Lurie! Ruth is smart, earnest, tireless, and dedicated to building bridges in the wild world of SF politics.
Congratulations to D9 Neighbors leadership team member Ruth Ferguson! Just appointed to the City College board by Mayor Daniel Lurie today! www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/l...
Come help us celebrate all D9 Neighbors for Housing has accomplished this year, and also raise money to support the great work Mission Food Hub does in the neighborhood! RSVP: actionnetwork.org/events/d9-ne...
This is right around the corner and can’t come soon enough to reduce upward pressure on the existing older housing stock in the neighborhood.
The only things that would make this news better are (1) getting even more units onto this site and (2) build the 30th St BART station we’ve longed for
YES YES YESSSSSS
In short, the Bernal Heights Safeway site is perfect for housing and we can't wait to hear more about this potential development. Thank you to the @sfchronicle.com for including our perspectives!
And one of the things that makes that so exciting is that potentially, if the development is done thoughtfully, you could keep the Safeway open while developing more housing on the property.”
@bpinsf.bsky.social also weighs in with some wise words on why the site is perfect for housing! "It’s a huge site. It has access to three different streets.
So that particular area is a flat large lot in a commercial corridor … that could use a lot more activation from a housing perspective.”
Caroline McCormack is quoted on why the Safeway site is so perfect for housing: "One of the things we hear in terms of push back from fellow neighbors in Bernal is that the narrow streets are not the right fit for multi-family housing.
Ruth Ferguson is quoted on why, while 100% affordable would be great at the site, we support market-rate housing too! “If that is something that’s going to take 30 years, then no, I’m not supportive of that, because people need housing now.”
The news is in the @sfchronicle.com today in a story that includes quotes from several of our members on why Bernal Heights, which has built miniscule numbers of housing for decades, needs more housing now: www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...
Today we learned that there's a development proposal to add hundreds of new homes at the Safeway site on Mission Street in Bernal Heights! We're so excited to hear this -- it's a site that would be perfect for housing and can be developed with minimum disruptions.
Our pleasure! Thank you for your service!
Towards the end of the night there was some much-needed comedy time with @throgers.bsky.social, who brought a laugh while reminding people that we need housing and the FZP can help deliver it!
@bpinsf.bsky.social, who stayed in Room 250 from the beginning until the bitter end! And spoke as a lover of San Francisco who wants to live around his family (imagine that!)
Fearless D9N leader @serogers.bsky.social on what makes a city great!
@lala-wu.bsky.social on generational housing needs!
Meg Rudy on how the status quo is killing us!
Kate Voshell, D9 Neighbors lead, with more inconvenient facts!
@ruthferguson.bsky.social with some inconvenient facts!
Yes yes yes!
No name but....this is probably one of our members who likes free pony metaphors 😆
What do we want? More opportunity! When do we want it? Now!
Go Dan!
